I just completed my 319th R/T
and have to say the road is the best it has been
in the 33 years I have been driving it.
Clear sailing to the north side of Santa
Rosalia. They started a new mining project
on the north side of town. Lots of truck
traffic and hard rocky road all the way to the
top of the grade. Good news is they are
widening the lanes plus a 4-5' skirt for safety.
They haven't changed the angle of the climb but
it will be much safer. More road work by
El Rosario and also Santo Tomas all for the
better. I decided to take the Tecate Rd.
out of
Ensenada, much better way to go, all for the
better. Now the bad news, I was driving a
small RV and the five Military check points were
very time consuming. Shortest time 20
minutes and the longest 30 minutes. All or
most of the topees up north in the small towns
have had the paint worn off. Some are bad
like at Spa and can damage your rig. Years
back I arrived at Spa at night pulling a trailer
and tore out all the plumbing on the first
topee. The border at Tecate was only an
hour. At TJ on a Fri. afternoon it would
have been 3-4 hours. Hope this help
