Baja Sky Saturday Night. The ISS (International
Space Station) will provide another tour of the sky tonight
beginning around 6:57pm in the southwest sky (earlier if mountains
don't block your view). It will move north and pass just below Venus
shining brightly over the western mountains. As it curves to the
northeast it will pass through the great square of Pegasas, and then
the most western star of the W-shaped constellation of Cassiopeia.
Finally it will cross right through the North Star (Estrella del
Norte), and finally disappear into the bowl of the Big Dipper (Ursa
Major) to complete a five-minute journey across the sky. Times are
the same for Los Barriles.

Asociación de Artes is conducting their third annual writer’s
workshop at the Colina del Sol clubhouse beginning on March 6, 2012.
There will be two sessions per week ,Tuesdays and Thursdays from
10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon for four weeks. There are no mandatory
turn-in requirements. Instead, you will be involved in discovering
the fun of writing through practical exercises and group
discussions. Topics during these two-hour sessions include finding
your voice, basic principles of writing, elements of style, writing
a family memoir, writing non-fiction, writing fiction, writing short
stories, writing children’s books and funding proposals. The cost is
$50 USD/$675 Pesos. All proceeds benefit Asociación de Artes
programs. Leading the discussions will be Walter S. Zapotoczny Jr.,
EastCape resident, East Capers' editor and published writer. To

Foreigners English speaking staff will assist you with government
related matters there is now a Mexican government office created to
reach out to the foreigners who live here full or part time. Alicia
Cota is an ombudswoman for foreign residents, speaks excellent
English and enjoys assisting foreign residents with govt red tape
such as tax matters and permits. She can even help you fill out
Spanish forms, telling you which department is in charge of what
form. Her office is inside City Hall, second door down on your

Loreto Being Considered For "Pueblo Magico"
Designation - After over a year of preparation, Loreto is under
consideration to be added to the list of cities designated by the
Mexican Federal Secretary Of Tourism as a "Pueblo Magico." If
realized, this would make Loreto the second city after Todos Santos
in Baja California Sur to achieve this designation. This will
entitle Loreto to receive additional funds to improve community
infrastructure and encourage tourism.
Loreto has a vast cultural heritage as the site of one of the first
missions settled in "Old California," as a rural community that has
preserved the essence of the early settlers, and has invaluable
natural wealth manifested through a National Marine Park, and five
islands in the Sea of Cortes declared as a "World Heritage" by
UNESCO. To become a "Pueblo Magico" is a recognition awarded by the
Federal Secretary Of Tourism to those localities that have managed
to preserve the cultural and natural heritage on which rest their

We are number 1 on the tour and would like to extend a welcome to

The Artists Studio Tour on Monday
Feb. 13th is always a lot of fun and a great way to meet your local
artists and see where they create their "works of art". This year
have 19 artists showing at 15 homes that are on our map. There are
acrylic, oil and watercolor paintings, pottery, mosaic tile tables,
hand knits, clothing, hand painted glassware, soy candles and, of
course, jewelry. I (Elizabeth Perkins) am a jewelry artists. I work
with sterling silver, semiprecious stones and pearls. Most of my
creations are on of a kind and I have a great selection of earrings,
bracelets, and necklaces. I only do a few shows a year in Los
Barriles as I mostly sell to the gift shops at Las Ventannas and
Esperanza hotels and Antigua de Mexico at the Pallmilla shops so
this is a good opportunity to come by and see my line of Jewelry. I
am # 3 on the map which you can pick in front of Otra Vez Monday
morning. The hours are 10 to 4. Also if you fellas need a Valentine
gift for your sweetheart this would be a good time to do a little
