CALLING ALL WILLING BLOOD DONORS
It’s high season for the wind surfers, as well as us retired folk.
Mexico does not maintain a blood bank or donor list. It’s up to
friends, so let’s be prepared for accidents! The community began
gathering names of willing blood donors last spring after Jeff
Niemi’s tragic accident and we need to expand the data base. Even
those visiting for Lord of the Wind should sign-up.
If you are in general good health and under age 65, please send your
name, blood type, contact info, and dates of residence to:
kay.mundt@gmail.com
There is also a need for volunteers to man the phones in an
emergency. They will be provided with all the details of
eligibility.
===========================================
Anyone interested in Latin dance lessons? A
teacher from La Paz is willing to come to Los Barriles once a week.
He would begin with Cumbia, which he says is the easiest, and go on
to Salsa. The charge would be $15 US for a two hour class.

A message from Dr. Mary, your
chiropractor...Can't wait to get out of this chilly Colorado to see
you for a few days! I arrive on January 12th and will be available
at the office on Thursday, January 12th by special arrangements.
I'll be in town until I fly back to Colorado on Monday, the 16th and
will post specific office hours for drop ins once I find out if I
need to go to La Paz on Friday to do some FM3 business. call or
e-mail so we can connect. US cell 970-275-3226, condo land line

You can get your teeth cleaned in La Ribera at
the new health clinic for 120 pesos. State of the art equipment,
very thorough work, knowledgeable dentista and friendly staff. Go
for it, then eat some tacos at Jorge's!

A big thank you to all of the volunteers who came
Saturday, Jan. 7th to assist with our spay and neuter clinic. With
your help we sterilized 56 dogs and cats! A special thank you to our
transporters: Lee and Kate Fenner, Bob Sexton, Bernadine Johnston,
Mary Bowman, Veronica Burquez and her Tio. They transported animals
back and forth most of the day from as far away as Boca del Alamo.
It truly does take a village!! Sheila Marshall,

Just a note to let all the different fund raising
organizations in LB know. The IESF fishing Tournament will be May
16-17-18 This year. For those of you that would like to enter with a
private boat more information to follow.
halljim13@yahoo.com
(Note from Cheryl...So, I sent Jim a note asking if this is the same
bunch of guys who brought the Jaws of Life, etc. down last year.
Here is Jim's answer.)
Hi Cheryl,
IESF stands for International Emergency Services Fund.
You can contact them though Iesfhelps.org or facebook/international
emergency services fund for more information. I.E.S.F has helped
other communities in Mexico to improve their emergency services
capabilities. IESF helps by providing support, service and training
in skills such as Rescue, EMS First Aid, Auto Extrication, and
firefighting. This group has selected the Buena Vista Fire Dept. and
surrounding Los Barriles area emergency providers for its next
project. The plan is to supply rescue tools such as Jaws of Life,
firefighting & ems equipment, and training to help the Bomberos
become more effective. There is also a possibility that IESF can
help acquire Fire Engines and or ambulances for the area as well.
IESF also hopes to work with our local East Cape Urgent Care Center
to improve emergency services in our area.
Yes these are the same guys that helped with Lord of
the Winds and did the training for the Bombero's in Buena Vista last
year. They brought down another ambulance a few days ago for La
Ribera and it was filled with fire fighting gear.
They asked me to help put together a fishing tournament for them
last year. I did, and we are going to do it again. It is a fund
raiser for IESF and a fun thing for them to do when they come down
to train the local Bombero's.

The Veterinary Clinic in Las Cuevas, Dra. Gretel is still located in
Las Cuevas. She and her husband are going to stay in that location.
She had posted in the BPE that they were moving to Santa Cruz, but
that move has now been cancelled and she and her husband, both Vets
are going to stay at their original location there in Las Cuevas,
cell phone number is: 044-624-129-5640.
She discovered my puppy had erlichiosis and she is now
on antibiotics and on the mend. Erlichiosis is curable if found
early enough. She takes a blood test right there at the clinic in
Las Cuevas, and in a matter of a few minutes she can verify if your
dog has this condition that is passed along by ticks which are quite
prevalent in the East Cape area. My puppy exhibited signs of
lethargy, not eating properly, and her gums seemed a whitish pink
than normal. The gums should be rosy pink, not a light almost
whitish pink. My puppy who is 7 months old is now on antibiotics
purchased at the clinic, and a liquid that helps put the spunk back
into my pup. The visit, the injection of iron, the diagnosis, the
blood test and the liquid spunk all came to about $80. I am grateful
for Dra. Gretels medical expertise and kindness with my new puppy,
