Motto
#1: Straight from the horse's mouth. No jokes, no rumors, no
opinions, no venting and no whining. Just the facts for all of
us who live and play in Baja.

G20 is coming! June 14-19. Below is a link to
Baja Life Styles, that describes some important road and beach
closures secondary to the G 20 conference. No toll road for a week
and the beach access from Zippers South will be limited. Looks like
lots of slow going traffic. Reading between the lines the Federales
will have many roadblocks with scrutiny on vehicle registration, IDs
and FM2/3 paperwork. Might be a good time to enjoy sleepy little Los
Barriles or even head North to La Paz. Joanna

RECYCLE NEWS!! Many have asked what our summer
recycling schedule will be. After much thought, we have concluded
that we should not take the risk of having recycling materials on
hand during storm season. These materials are much safer stored in
your garage or bodega than in our open Recycling Center. Please
continue to collect materials through the summer if you can, and
bring them to us in November when the danger of storms has passed.
NOTE: we will not be accepting colored glass until further notice.
Clear glass is ok.
Here is our schedule:
June 7, 2012 - Normal recycling day: 9am to 11am Please
volunteer if you can. Many of our regulars have left already! One
hour is all we ask!!
July 5, 2012 - Normal recycling day: 9am to 11am.
Again, we need volunteers for this last regular recycle day.
August, September and October 2012 - Recycling Center
is closed.
NOVEMBER 1, 2012. Recycling day collections will
resume: 9am to 11am
Please try to reduce and reuse during the summer months, and stash
your recycles somewhere secure! Questions/comments:

Baja Sky Watch for June,
2012. The big event for June is the transit of Venus across the face
of the sun on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 5. The Ensenada
Institute of Astronomy announced it intends to set up telescopes for
viewing the transit at Mission San Jose Del Cabo, the site used to
watch the 1769 transit by Spanish and French astronomers. The
transit will begin at approximately 4:06:30 pm and continue past
sunset. Do not look at the sun without certified eclipse glasses or
#14 welding glass. Through eclipse glasses, Venus will just be a dot
crossing the face of the sun. Earth would appear just as tiny in the
vast solar system to an observer on Mars. The event can be watched
live on the internet at www.slooh.com. For historical information
and more go to www.transitofvenus.org. After passing to the west of
the sun, near the end of the month both Venus and Jupiter will
appear in the east before sunrise as the bright morning stars in the
constellation Taurus, with Venus sitting next to the bright star
Aldebran.
There are three other sky events worth watching in
early June. Around 5am on Monday, June 4, the setting full moon will
be partially eclipsed by earth's shadow. On Monday's evening at
8:35:37pm in the Cabo San Lucas area, there will be a very bright
satellite flare high in the ESE (a little south of due east) sky and
lasting about 10 seconds.. You might be able to catch a slightly
dimmer view at other locations on the Eastcape, but begin viewing
half a minute earlier. Tuesday evening, after the transit of Venus,
the International Space Station will make a bright pass, rising in
the SW around 9:35pm, passing high overhead around 9:38pm, and
setting in the NE around 9:41, a six-minute trip. It will be the
brightest object in the night sky when overhead. In the Cabo San
Lucas area, the ISS will transit across Mars and the last star in
the handle of the Big Dipper.
All month long, Saturn and Mars will be high the the
south or southwestern sky by 9pm. Scorpio, with the red giant double
star Antares at its heart, will be rising in the southeast sky, and
the Southern Cross will be standing vertically just above the
southern horizon. The Big Dipper should be easy to spot in the
northern sky. If you follow the arc of the Dipper's handle across
the sky it will lead you to Arcturus, the 3rd brightest star in the
sky. Sliding past Arcturus will take you to the star Spica near
Saturn.

CURP Discussion: Jimmy and I went to Immigration in La Paz and
were told the following: To get the CURP card you need a copy of the
main page of your U.S. or Canadian passport; a copy of the three
main pages of your FM or Inmigrado booklet or both sides of the FM
card; and a short letter requesting the card with your name and
signature. To make things even easier there is a kiosk next to the
Immigration office that makes copies for almost nothing. The letter
requesting the card must be in Spanish. Chris White

ROAD REPORT
a.
The road is great all the way. We made La Paz from Cabo in 1 hour
and 13 minutes and San Quintin in 15 hours. There was a couple of
rough b.spots just north of Guerrero Negro. Thank You,

We drove from Tecate to Guerro Negro today. There was NO road
construction worth reporting and we were waved through all three
military checks. We’re also happy to report that the La Pinta
/Desert Inn in GN has changed hands. It is now the Halfway Inn and
the nightly right is drastically lower: 650 p/night. Same staff and
terrific service. Julie
