This dog needs your help! She was dumped in Spa
before Semana Santa with mange on her face which I took her to Dr.
to heal and she had a respiratory infection. While caring for
her she was hit by a car during semana Santa and while waiting for
xray machine to be brought here she started walking on her bad leg
so we didn't xray it but now two months later she needs a hip
operation as it is dislocated. Alma has paid all medical bills to
date but this will be 2500 pesos and Alma cant pay that but if you
donate to Alma and note that this is for dislocated hip dog, that
money will go for her operation. Please help her as after the
operation she will walk normally and w/o pain and go to Oregon for
adoption. She is just a puppy not one year yet. Thank you and Bless
you! call or email

Don't laugh but we have a problem with birds
building nests in the wrong place at our home in the USA. We have a
high tech solution! We bought a "rubber snake" at a yard sale,
placed it on the nest that was in progress. The birds have departed
never to return. thecomptuerguy (thecomptuerguy@usa.com)

Dengue Fever
Hola, this is Ken E and I'm currently in Puerto
Vallarta and I have dengue fever. Not a nice thing at all. But to
get to the point. If you have mosquitoes hanging around your house
you can chase them away with sheets of fabric softeners you put in
clothes dryers.. My house here in Vallarta got taken over by them
one day and I got the tip from a friend in the states. I put them
out under my desk where they like to congregate and a few other
places and they have all gone away. I don't know if I'll die from
some chemical exposure. But at least the mosquitoes have gone away.
Put them in calm places outside where they like to hang out too.
Dengue is very painful. If you have sudden onset of
fever, and I mean within minuets. A really bad headache and sever
joint and mussel pain so bad you can hardly walk. That's dengue.
They call in "Break Bone Fever" for good reason. The most common
type in our area is common dengue. It will last about eight days.
There is no medicine you can take. But go see a doctor just the
same. The fever will go away all of a sudden and you think your
going to be better. Then a little later your back under a blanket
shivering and in sever pain again. It comes and goes for those eight
days. I'm on day six and it's better, but not gone. Skin rash can
develop a few days into the illness. Look for small red dots that
don't go away when you push on them. They are broken capillaries.
Be well.. Ken E

It has come to my attention that some of you may not
have seen our notice in the previous winter issue of the East
Caper's, and BPE#1197, giving the locations of the recently
purchased AED's. The AED's are located at Buena Vista Police, Spa
Buena Vista Hotel, Costa Bravo, and the Amerimed Clinic. Training
was given to the locations. Everyone's effort in this event was
commendable. Community support is essential. Please look for up
coming events that help us keep our community healthy and safe.
Thank you for your support

FIDO AND MORRIS and THE AIRLINES
I recently had 2 people translate and provide a synopsis of the
Mexican government Directives that apply to the 'no pets in cabin'
policy which the airlines have just implemented. Both translators
agreed on the basic gist of the document:
International Travel of pets: Mexico
has this compulsory Circular CO AV-07.8/07 which they have now
started to enforce. It states that every licensee or permittee who
operates or intends to operate services to the public passenger
transportation in Mexico must comply with the requirements of this
Compulsory Circular. Aircraft operators must also comply with the
requirements of this Compulsory Circular according to the type of
operation and characteristics of their aircraft. As I read this,
this includes all flights in Mexico whether international or not.
It states that all pets traveling to Mexico effective
immediately until further notice, all dogs and/or cats must travel
in a kennel and be placed in the aircraft cargo hold. Also they are
required to have a Health Certificate. The only exception in Mexico
for a live animals in the passenger cabin is in the case of a
service animal, like a guide dog. Travelers with three or more pets
are subject to additional importation fees of approximately $1,600
pesos (approximately $150 USD) as mandated by the SAGARPA (Secretary
of Agriculture, Livestock Production, Rural Development, Fishery and
Food). The payment can be paid online or at a Mexican bank. Upon
arrival with three or more pets, Customs will direct you to the
cargo area where the required commercial importation process takes
place. The clearance may require a customs broker.
The bottom line is there's no point in petitioning the
airlines; they are simply following Mexican federal law. As
foreigners in Mexico, there are limits to what we can do to try and
influence the government on this policy, but we are investigating
what, if anything, we can legally do.
Anyone who would like a copy of the Directives (in
Spanish) can contact me by email at
hamiltos12@yahoo.com
