Baja Night Sky: Tonight (Wednesday) the Moon and
Mars rise side by side at 6:06pm. Thursday evening, the Full Moon
rises at 7:09pm. at a point a bit farther south on the horizon.
Average moonrise is about 50 minutes later each night, but can vary
from 30 minutes to 70 minutes depending on several factors related
to the moon's orbital position. Extreme high and low tides occur
near full and new moons when the Moon and Sun are both in line with
the Earth and their gravitational pull on the ocean beneath them is
combined. The extreme high tides for this month occur Wednesday
morning around 8:15am, and Thursday around 9am. While the sea will
rise about one meter at these high tides, the earth beneath our feet
actually rises about 30 centimeters. In the west, Venus is rapidly
approaching Jupiter and the two planets should be side by side by
Tuesday evening, March 13. If you can see any of the stars in the
constellation Orion from your location, check Tuesday's VV or BPE
for instructions on how you can help add to scientific knowledge by
participating in the GLOBE AT NIGHT light-pollution survey for Baja
Sur.

We joined the Baja Awesome Sport Fishing crew on Tuesday and were treated to more than was advertised. The whales, dolphins and mantarays were in abundance. We weren’t even 200 yards off shore when we encountered whales and jumping manta rays. The captain circled the creatures, making sure not to get too close, while we filmed their antics. After cruising to Bahía de los Muertos north of El Cardonal we stopped near some rocks for some great snorkeling. Then, it was off to the Gran Sueño Restaurant at the Bahía de los Sueños Resort for an excellent lunch. On the way home the captain found a pod of over a hundred dolphins. They played, jumped and swam under the boat. It was like they were performing for us. One young passenger commented, “This was one of the best days of my life.” Don’t miss this memory-making opportunity! -Walter

Tried Manteca de Cerdo and it liquefied and then rehardened in the freezer just fine, BUT in about an hour after hanging from a tree it starts the downward melt, not acceptable.
