Note: One of my
objectives with the BPE is to take care of each other. It's my
belief all break-ins, attempted break-ins and thefts should be
reported to the BPE so neighborhoods can be on the lookout. It

I'd like to thank everyone in the community who has
supported and continues to support The IESF, (Intl Emergency
Services Fund) and it's efforts to raise the level and quality of
emergency response in the East Cape. So far since January, the IESF
has supplied: A fully operating ambulance (donated) to La Ribera, 10
paramedic defibrillators Lifepak 2000, 15 large boxes of medical
supplies, breathing apparatus, 1500 feet of fire hose, (attack and
supply). Additionally, approx. 20 hours of fire training and many
miscellaneous adapters, clothing, nozzles, equipment.
Unfortunately, we were unable to coordinate and host a
fund raising event this year. The dinner and fishing tourney was
sorely missed but will continue next year! In the meantime....We
will keep training the Buena Vista Bomberos in fire and rescue
tactics and medical treatment.
Fire Chief Arturo Castro reported he is days away from
receiving a Water Tender (tanker) from neighboring Santiago, so we
will be doing some training with him on it's uses when it arrives.
Our next goal is to train the ambulance drivers.
Hopefully, with help, this winter we will teach the
"International Trauma Life Support" Course to 20 students from the
East Cape area. This will help save lives at the scene of
emergencies. Right now there is only one medic working on one of the
few Government ambulances (that have authority to respond) in the
whole East Cape. The other personnel have no formal medical
training. The ITLS is a basic three day course.
The IESF has a proposal out there for the class and Los
Barriles Rotary International and others have graciously offered
their support to raise the approximate 2800 dollars to put on the
course.
I look forward to what the rest of the year brings!

On Saturday, May 19, 148 local East Cape high
school students were awarded scholarships for next school year. Over
300 students, family members and community members came to the
Cancha in Los Barriles to watch the proud students receive their
certificates and watch the singers and dancers. Thanks to all in the
community who make it possible for The East Cape Guild to be able to
help support the education of our local kids every year. These kids
are the future of our community.

Finally the new place in the center of town, next to Ameri-Med, has
announced they will begin serving today, Wednesday, May 23, at
9:00AM. The “Terraza de Germán”, asadero or taco place will be open
Wed.- Sun., 9’00Am to 2:00PM & 6:00PM to 11:00PM. Tacos will include
fish, carne asada and chicken, along with shrimp or cheese
empanadas, stuffed potatoes, charro beans, grilled onions etc. Come
by and check it out right across the street from Colwell-Banker on
the main entrance to Los Barriles.
