Received Saturday 5/26/12 4pm:  This morning I had two younger Mexicans (20 to 30) hanging around my sub-division, which is near Hotel Pescadores between the two arroyos north of LB. They were in a newer black pick-up truck.. When they stopped in front of a vacant motor home on our street i went to see what was up.. They were pulling a copper wire out of the registro when I came up and confronted them they said the were working for CFE "installing" a ground cable I told them I already had a ground cable and asked who their boss was.. No answer... I jumped on my quad and raced out to get the police, I couldn't find them and as I was coming back across the 1st arroyo I saw them speeding in the other direction (South).. When I got back to the sub-division I realized that they were cutting the copper wire in the registro and pulling it out with their pick-up.. It looked like the cut the cable and ran for it right after I talked to them... final assessment is that they probably pulled about 400 meters of ground cable out of our system.. I made a police report and left a message for Dennis to get in touch with CFE... So, heads up, this was pretty bold stuff to be doing in broad daylight... several people saw them before me but "minded their own business" you probably should check when people are doing stuff like this and aren't in a clearly marked Telmex or CFE vehicle.. a.  CURB CARD DISCUSSION:

     1.  I recommend aL Pagos y Servicios (Magnolia and Rocio). Magnolia arranged for my CURP registration (completed online), printed the CURP card, and arranged a meeting with the Seguro Popular officer in La Paz. The fee for this service was 500 pesos.
The payoff was that, because I don't have Mexican income, I was enrolled in Seguro Popular for no cost (zero per annum).
I needed a copy of my FM3, and a copy of the page of my Fideicomiso that shows the Lot number (proof of address). No photo was required. Here's a link to a fuller explanation I found ...

     2.  Hi Cheryl, It is CURP card and its free at Immigration office for the asking.

     3.  My very helpful bilingual Mexican friend helped me get one in 5 minutes from the comfort of my home. Just Google CURP and enter the one headed" consulta curp". Fill out the questionnaire and submit...you will get a card you can print out, fold on the dotted line and laminate. You also do not have to travel to La Paz as they come by to sign up locals.  I will post the information of when and where when I receive it. If anyone needs the services of this bilingual, very smart ,helpful and nice Mexican man let me know as he needs employment. sue-kiwi@hotmail.com

     4.  You can get them at the "Delegation" next to the soccer field in LaRibera. See the judge who is named Anna.

     5.  Hi. We applied for ours at the immigration office in Cabo. We had to go there with copies of FM3's and a letter requesting a CURP card. Then the head of IMN e-mails this information along with a copy of your passport to Mexico city. In Mexico city the number is assigned. This is like a SSN in the USA. We were told that it would take from an hour to a week to get the CURP number. Going back on Monday or Tuesday - hoping the card is there. They may do it differently in LaPaz.
