For you Halloween revelers who came to

==========================================
To the greater area of
Los Barriles, it is once again time for the "Los Barriles Community
Market" (LBCM). The first market will be held on December 1st and
almost every Saturday for the season at the new park.(check
the calendar). It is our intention for everyone to come
out and participate whether you are buying or selling. Come out and
enjoy yourself with family and friends. We will again have a
selection of fruits, vegetables, arts, crafts, food, entertainment,
and more!!!
We are looking for local participants to exhibit their
handmade crafts, foods, and home grown vegetables. Each space will
cost $50.00 pesos with schools and non-profits exempt. This money
goes towards the sound system, advertisement, and improvements to
our park. To help things run smooth at each event, we are requesting
each vendor please request their space prior to the Saturday you
wish to participate. E-mail is the best verification, but a Spanish
speaking phone number is provided if not possible. If you or someone
you know would like to participate, this includes local
entertainment, please see contacts listed below.
This event is a great way to meet people, support the
local organizations, and all of the creative people we have around
us. Come out for a morning of Fun, Food, and Entertainment. We can't
do it without you. See you there.......Los Barriles Community Market

a. Alaska Airlines Cancelling LAX Service
To La Paz - It looks like alaska is discontinuing flights from lax
to lap in april. I saw rumors on baja nomad but called and confirmed
with alaska today. Horizon will operate mwf thru feb 16th and then
sat only thru april 6th and then nada. Cabo will be only option.
since horizon went to the smaller planes they were always full. They
had a monoply as there was no other competition. Now we'll need to
go to cabo and have many options, frontier, aa united etc. Seems
alaska is the loser here.
I don't know if we can pull together and petition them, but worth
trying. anyone have ideas? we still have a few months. by Rick

FLORA FARMS SAN JOSE
On Thursday, my friend, Deb and I sought out Flora's Farm and
Kitchen in San Jose. It is close to the marina. There Are well
marked signs to follow. Upon entering, a parking attendant guided us
to the kitchen. What a delight. We were in a tropical oasis. For the

HOLA
PUMPKIN PIE MAKERS!
a. C'mon you pumpkin pie makers, you don't need canned pumpkin
to make your pies. Cut your big pumpkin or calabasa (we get ours
from Lucia's in La Ribera) in quarters and bake it til soft. Scoop
out the meat and put in a big bowl and make a well in the center.
Liquid will form there. Scoop it out with a big spoon until its gone
(takes about a day). Now add your allspice, ginger, cloves,
cinnamon, molasses, eggs, honey or sugar, milk or cream. Do it to
your taste. Put in into a prepared pie shell. Homemade is always
better. You'll never go back to cans. Provecho!
Danilo y LaLa Ribera!
b.
With the reader's kind permission I offer an incredibly easy and
inexpensive recipe for canned pumpkin. Go to the market and
ask for a piece of calabaza de castilla. About 8 inches wide. They
will gladly cut it for you. You want a piece about 1.2 kilo. Take it
home, scrape out the seeds and strands with a large spoon. Put the
cleaned piece cut side down on a cookie sheet and bake it in a
moderate oven, position three or 350 degrees or so for about 30
minutes. Don't add salt or oil or butter or anything. The oven will
dry out the flesh sufficiently to make a nice pie. After it is cool
enough to handle, justw scrape the flesh from the shell. You need
825 grams to equal a 15 ounce can of pumpkin. Use a blender or food
processor and part of the liquid or eggs from your recipe to make
the pumpkin smooth.
