ROAD REPORTS - Can be very, very simple.  Travelers just want to know if bridges are out or delays that may last several hours.  If I hear anything bad, I'll put out a special little bulletin. 

a.  Received Wed. 4:30pm:  Hi road closed, bridges out and slide prevents passage at Puerto  Escondido. So we are hunkered in Loreto Hotels full but we are safe.  Told it will be 2 more days. Will try to head for home mañana.

b.  Received Wed 4:45pm:  Highway one is cut off South of Loreto, ligui bridge washed down river, Federal police figure 2 to 3 days so as to have a diviation path constructed.

c.  Received Tuesday pm:  Howdy. I drove down yesterday from San Ignacio. Roads then were fine, except rain from Santa Rosalia to LB, on and off. Water 6-8" deep at intersections in Constitution. I suspect it will be worse today. It appeared that LaPaz also experienced heavy rains yesterday, since there was water at the low spots in the road and intersections. There were heavy rains yesterday around Constitution and I drove thru some. Just be aware. Ivan Kaiser

DOG BITE: Please be aware. On a brief Los Barriles visit last week, while walking to Chapitos, on the main road below Caleb’s, near the purified water store, 3 barking dogs followed me, when one bit me on the calf from behind. It drew blood through my long pants. I was seen at the clinic the next day, where the initial concern was infection and tissue damage. I was told, yes, rabies is present in Baja and very few of the local dogs are immunized. Rabies treatment is provided in La Paz (apparently for free), requiring multiple trips over several weeks. Since I was returning to the US the next day, I spoke with my family physician. I’ve begun treatment in the US, at a cost of $3,000+ and the nasty bite is slowly healing. Just a heads up. Richard

Monte Carlo Night - Sat. Nov. 10th.  Tickets will go on sale on Monday October 22nd and can be purchased at the office of Homes and Land of Baja until November 7th. The price of tickets are $25 US or $320 MN and include dinner, chips for gambling and a lucky raffle ticket! Tickets will also be for sale at Roadrunner Cafe's Open Mic Night on October 31st, and also from 9 AM to 12:00 PM on the 1st, 5th and 7th of November, also at the Roadrunner. Will call tickets are available for you absentee's but must be paid for on or before November 7th. The Baja 1000 off road race runs the length of the peninsula this year. Here is a link to the course maps and an excellent link to Google Earth. Links on the right side of the page. The Google Earth information contains exact details of the entire course. The dates are 14 - 17 November. Remember the roads will be dangerous to travel during this time frame. Support vehicles will be traveling at high speed to get to their next pit stop. Be careful out here!!!
