This is a message from Ranger: I've been visiting
my sister and brother-in-law, Sherry and Pete Kelly, for several
weeks and have enjoyed meeting many of you around town and while
playing drums and 'zydeco tie' at Roadrunner on Wednesdays. What you
probably don't know is that I'm Executive Director of the World
Sweeping Association, representing many of the contractors who clean
streets and parking areas in cities and towns around the U.S. and
the world. So, in that capacity I wanted to encourage everyone to
turn out on Monday morning from 8 to 11 to help clean up Los
Barriles. My assistant, Regina, also joined me here this past week
but had to leave today. So, to get a head start on things we picked
up all the garbage from the mid-section of Buenos Aires Arroyo up to
and including the waterfall area today before she left. It was fun
and looks lots better going up and coming back. Please grab anything
we missed next time you go up. Looking forward to helping on Monday;
see you there!

Friday we devoted the day to an adventure in La
Paz to register with Seguro Popular. First step was Immigration
where we presented our Passports along with our new Temporary
Resident Cards and obtained our CURP numbers. Next stop was the old
hospital on Nicolas Bravo. We found the office on the second floor
of the new wing. Look for the door on the right. We had a nice
chat with the young gal under the window who spoke perfect English.
That office will determine an "economic means test"; how much you
will be charged for the Seguro Popular medical insurance. Their
policies range from 3 months to years. A wife may apply under the
husbands name. If you are indigent, its free but if you have
"means", there will be a charge. You will be asked a variety of
questions to make that determination including "do you have a
refrigerator?" At the Seguro Popular office, you will need copies
of the CURP form, Passport, FM3 - we included copies of utility
bills, etc. I did not include any prices since they will vary
depending on their assessment.
Note - If you are retired Military, remember your Tricare or Tricare
for life will pay up to 80% for urgent care. We have done just
that.

Thanks to all who volunteered and worked
tirelessly to make Bocce Ball 2013 such a success.
East Cape Guild members, their spouses and many friends all worked
together to share the work involved to make this
event happen. Thanks to all 88 players and attendees who
contributed to make this a really fun afternoon. (total 140 +/-) A
big thanks to Dave and Cheryl Dondlinger who hosted the event and
brought Bocce Ball back to its beginning on Looney Loop. Well done
everyone! All profits from this event go the East Cape Guild's
scholarship fund, providing educational benefits to the students of
the East Cape since 1998. Carlene Lokey & Kay Barbour

b. We
recently had Edward (Ward) Barnes install a solar panel system at
our home in Hermosa Vista. The experience from proposal to
completed project was nothing short of outstanding. And our first
CFE statement after installation took away any doubt that we had
made the right decision to go solar and to “Go Barnes.” The
equipment showed up when Ward said it would, the duty estimate was
accurate and there were no surprises in the final billing. He
started and ended the project on time, and was always
available to answer any question (and I had plenty!) and to reduce
the technical verbiage to an understandable level. He worked on the
project every day--a practice all too uncommon--and so was able to
handle any obstacles that popped up. I wouldn’t change a
thing...and I haven’t always been able to say that about our Baja
projects! Ed

Found out the not so fun way last night that if you ever get a bug
that crawls into your ear, olive oil will kill it quickly. Googling
while one is on you ear isn't an easy task :) local doctor says this
is a common thing here FYI.

f. Via the Ventana View:
In regards to the BofA card users: Santander is a sister
branch of BofA and there are no charges whatsoever at Santander's
ATMs. There is one across the street from Soriana. It might be
safer to use your card there. And you can resolve any problems with
your card at this branch as well. ~L
