Normally, thanks to Lane Sykes and Char I most always have available for anyone to use, crutches, walkers and a wheel chair or two. Now I have candidates for two wheel chairs and the one I had is still being used since last year. Does anyone out there have one not being used, just taking up precious space, well I can put to good use a couple immediately and could use another for stand by. Of course these items are always loaned free of charge with the only stipulation being they be returned when not needed so someone else can use them. You can bring by my office or we will gladly pick up anywhere from La Paz to San Lucas. Thank you and may God Bless.

BAJA SKY TONIGHT -- Week of February 10:  Orion,  the stars of the Winter Hexagon, and Jupiter are all high in the southern sky by 9pm. As Earth travels 1.6 million miles a day on its path around the sun,  the stars of the previous night come into view (rise) about 4 minutes earlier. In 30 days, that 4 minutes adds up to the same stars rising 120 minutes--two hours--earlier. The  Southern Cross was upright in the south around 5:30am  a month ago. If you want to see the Southern Cross upright in the south this week, look for it around 3:30am. Or hang around until mid May to see La Cruz de Mayo around 10:30pm on a warm Baja evening.  The New Moon,  between earth and sun,  occurred just after midnight on Sunday morning.  Monday evening,  if viewing conditions are favorable, there is a good chance you can see the thin crescent moon, with Mercury  just below at the 7 o'clock position,  and Mars just below Mercury. To see all three, look between 50 and 60 minutes after sunset, which varies depending on your location in Baja Sur.  Use binoculars to find Mars. If you can see the entire moon, you are looking at earthshine,  sunlight reflected by the Earth onto the night side of the Moon.  A poet once called this the "old moon in the arms of the new."  You should have until about one hour and 40 minutes after sunset to find this crescent moon.  So why is Mercury seldom seen by most casual observers?  Mercury is the closest planet to the sun;  from our perspective, most of the time it is too close to the sun to see. Once you can it, it takes 88 days to orbit the sun, and another 28 to reach the same  position in the sky from an earth that has moved on in its own orbit.  That's less than 1/3 or a year, so Mercury does this three and a small fraction more times a year.  Each year there will be three times when Mercury is the evening star for a couple of weeks,  and three times when it is the morning star,  and each time there is only  an hour or so after sunset or before sunrise when the planet is visible. Clouds and obstructed horizons may block the planet from view.  Unless you make plans to see Mercury, chances are you never will.            Tom S.
