Lord of the Wind:  Many people are now asking us was Lord of the Wind successful? The overwhelming response from the community, volunteers and participants is yes, we had a great Lord of the Wind. We staged a four day event drawing some of the best athletes in the world racing against the best that Los Barriles has to offer. The racing was awesome the parties had great attendance and the volunteers proved the motto of Rotary "Service above Self" is alive and well in Los Barriles.
Some characterize success as how much money we made, some how much tourism increases and some did we bring out the community in support. To answer these questions: First, the community support was a highlight; over 90 people volunteered to help and gave their all for the event. While tourism is difficult to gage, you may have noticed that our little town is very busy right now and several local businesses are reporting great sales numbers for the last two weeks. The final gage that some use to determine success: was the event profitable and what will happen to the money?
While all of the bills and revenue are still being collected, the 2013 Lord of the Wind will generate approximately $16,000 for our community. Rotary will use much of these funds for the building a community technology center for the benefit of our local kids and community. The center will open on February 24th.
We should all be proud or our town for staging an international event and showcasing Los Barriles to the World.  Steve Fowler

The premier event of the competition the Lord of the Wind Showdown was won by Bryan Lake followed by the world champion Jonny Heineken.
