DONATIONS needed !
The Palapa south of the Elementary school in Los Barriles is a
peaceful place where all nationalites during the day and
Mexicans in the evenings enjoy exercise and Zumba classes. In
the Palapa are also exercise classes in the Summer for local
children, but the wooden floor is falling apart and jumping
on it is becoming dangerous.
Please help us to collect the needed money of
6,000 Pesos to renew the floor.
There will be a
Donation box at CARMEN'S CAFE in the ExotiKite shop. Stop by,
drink a Frappe and help us with your donations. Thank you very
much, Carmen
If you have any questions: carmen_oasis@hotmail.com,

a. CELL PHONE PLAN QUESTION-Answers
summary. It appears AT&T is the only game in town as far as
smartphones go. You can add their Viva Mexico plan for a small fee
to get reduced rates. For longer calls out of Mexico, Skype is the
cheapest. Some people also use prepaid phones thru Telcel or
Tracfone while they’re in LB and you can purchase minutes at
Chapito’s. I also heard that many people use Magic Jack or Vonage
that allows them to call the states but have no other details.
Thanks everyone
b. I thought the readers might like to know
that the Best Western at the airport is great! Very good service,
clean rooms, very comfortable beds and a lovely outside pool and
brand new gym. Couldn’t fault it. You also get a free ride to the
terminal with the hotel driver. Excellent option if you have a very
early flight like I did. Only downside is that it’s pricey compared
to what we’re used to in Mexico, but if you shop around on the hotel
websites, you can get a better deal.
c. Answer re: Cut off road north of
Bahia de LA:
The road you're enquiring
about leaves Highway 1 at Laguna Chapala (50 KM's north of the
turnoff to Bay of LA) You'll see the sign to San Felipe.
There are 60 KM's of
rough and rocky road to navigate, ending 4 KM's north of Gonzaga Bay
where the pavement starts. We just did it a few weeks ago and
took, us 4 hours in a one ton, single axle truck (averaged 10 mph or
15 kmph) Take your time and save the vehicle. Fuel up at Jesus
Maria, next guaranteed fuel at San Felipe (365 KM's later)
Sometimes the Pemex is open at Gonzaga Bay, but don't take the
chance. Carry fuel if you're not sure of your vehicles range. Also
make sure your spare tire is in good condition and full of air and
you know how to change a tire (surprising how many people don't know
how to).
The good news I heard is that the funding is in place to complete
the paving to highway 1, completion date sometime in 2015.
Hope this helps out.. Cheers, Chuck
