Lost dog in Mulege. Can you help?
Last week while travelling north, a friend became separated
from his dog at the southern Pemex station in Mulege. Nina
is a totally black, female Shar Pei (not the wrinkly face
kind). She is medium sized, 18" to the shoulder, and in
excellent, glossy condition. She has a curled-up tail, ears
that point forward and a black tongue. She was wearing a
bright red, fabric collar with a rabies tag. She looks a
little fierce, but she is very friendly. Any info would be
greatly appreciated. Thanks so much! Penny Cottee, 612 144

Spa Buena Vista
Beach Resort – Happy Hour. Just to be clear – It was announced that
the Spa Amigos Appreciation Day that we will be extending Happy Hour
to two hours from November through the end of April each year. And
guess what-it’s only March. So to clear up all of the confusion –
Yes until the end of April this year, Happy Hour is from 4-6
p.m. In May we go back to Happy Hour from 4-5 p.m. and then again in
November we will have Happy Hour from 4-6 p.m. until the end of
April once again. It’s that simple-I hope :>)

Yes, Google reads your
email. Well, sort of and so do all the big email providers. Their
servers read/scan your email for two main reasons. First, Google is
an advertising company. They are "interested" in what your
"interested in" to provide targeted ads. Secondly, they scan emails
looking for Spammers. Ever notice the number of worthless emails
has dropped dramatically, that's why. In case your not paranoid
enough, there is a super secret site in England that monitors just
about everything looking for terrorists. Well, we can do something
about the ads. If you use Chrome or Firefox, AdBlockPlus is an
add-on worth installing. It eliminates 99% of all ads.
Let's talk MAC. Apple makes some of the finest
computers around; not the cheapest computers. My wife and I have
several, I'm not allowed to say how many I actually have since my
wife still reads the BPE. Macs are very easy to use, a PC user will
be comfortable in two hours tops. A new user will have even less
transition time. The Macs come loaded with just about all the
software a normal user would need. No Viruses in the wild; well,
there were two relatively obscure last year. As Mac gains in market
share those glory days may end. Viruses are created these days for
financial gain. The good news, operating systems are more secure.
There is a down side to the MAC OS. Older computers tend to be
orphaned. There seems to be a cycle of about 4-6 years, your older
Mac may not run the newest software. And, there is a danger in
upgrading to newer versions of the MAC OS. The drivers for your
peripherals may not work on the new MAC OS's. In English, if you
upgrade to "flying tiger" (my guess for the next system), your
printer/scanner may not work. Each company is responsible to update
their own drivers. It's up to them to make new drivers available.
So, if your happy with your current MAC OS, you may not want to
upgrade. I never upgrade any PC OS or Mac OS for at least six
months.
Take a good look at your photos today. If you haven't
backed them up, it may be the last time you see them! the

Baja Night Sky--Wednesday, March 27, 2013--A
rising 97% full Moon will clear the eastern horizon tonight in
under 2 ½ minutes, an out-of-this-world sight. Watch it around
7:12pm, four fingers south of east. Use binoculars for a more
impressive sight. Saturn and Spica, with the Moon
sandwiched in between, will cross the sky together Thursday evening.
Look for this trio in the east, Saturn to the Moon's lower left,
Spica to its upper right, after 9:45pm. Arcturus is the bright star
in the east over the south end of Cerralvo. Moon lore: The
Moon was our first timekeeper and inspired the creation of our
seven-day week thousands of years ago. Watch the moon nightly for
several months and you will discover that the intervals between
first crescent, first quarter, full, third quarter, and last
crescent average seven days; after new Moon, the cycle repeats.
Without the moon and seven ancient planets, we might have been stuck
with a five or ten-day week! It's happened before, but today almost
everyone uses the moon-inspired seven-day-week. Can you spot the
names of the seven planets of the ancient world in the days of the
week? Sunday, Monday and Saturday are obvious. The rest are easy
using their Spanish names. Current scientific theory
postulates that the Moon was created when a Mars-sized object struck
a glancing blow to Earth, sending debris into orbit that coalesced
into the Moon. However it happened, life on Earth could not exist
without the moon. Its gravity keeps Earth's tilt stable; this
preserves the seasons that prevent Earth from being scorched in a
continuous summer. The Moon causes the tides, which oxygenate the
sea and provided tide pools for life to develop; tidal friction
slowed Earth's rotation from five hours to 24, which optimized wind
circulation and surface temperature. Surfing would be impossible
without the moon. The Moon provides other life-supporting functions
through its gravitational tug on Earth and reflected sunlight, not
to mention the romantic influence of a full Moon rising over the Sea
of Cortez. So until Monday of next Month, enjoy watching our
amazing moon. Tom S.

THUMBS UP - ANSWERS -
DISCUSSIONS-
This category must have name and/or email address.
a. Answers to the question about
organic meat:
1) For cold cuts: Applegate
meats, fresh and frozen and one other brand at Que Rico
(612-118-6031) and possibly Pura Vida, both in Todos Santos
2) For chicken: Joe's Deli on 20
Noviembre, in LB, across from East Cape RV Resort sells free
range chickens (from a rancher in San Bartolo.
4) Also, Tanya at Blue Wave in
Buenos Aires can order grass-fed meats for you, although
they are expensive ($9-$11) per pound, from reputable
ranches in the U.S.
5) For good quality meat,
although we're not sure about hormones, the butcher behind
Barrilitos restaurant has very fresh beef, 90 per kilo for
hamburger, also good steak, and liver.
Outstanding question: We
trying to settle a question about Sonoran beef. We have
heard that theirs is better than most commercial beef
because it is not from feedlot cattle. Does anyone have any
info about this? Thanks so much to everyone who contributed!
