a. Recently drove through Tecate looking like Jed Clammpet and
Daisy May heading baja way. We had new items, in their original
boxing under the cardboard and tarped covering on our flatbed
trailer but I spoke in spanish with all the agents and the military
and breezed through it all. They asked if we had new things and we
said yes and they passed us through anyway?? I'm convinced that
attempting to speak the language and looking poorer than they are
saved us a lot of money in duty. At one military checkpoint the guys
turned around on their chairs all started laughing and waved us
through. Maybe it was the old wicker chairs tied down on the back,
like a scene from the Griswold's summer vacation, minus grandma, was
the topping on the cake, all and all a very pleasant experience.
