Supernova 2014J will fade from sight as the moon waxes brighter

. The Milky Way,
rising up from the SE to the zenith around 9pm, grazes Sirius and
Betelgeuse on its western edge, and between them it contains a dozen
or so nebulae and star clusters to explore with binoculars. Monday
evening, around 9pm, high above the setting moon in the west, there
are two more star clusters. The Hyades is the open cluster in Taurus
the Bull, including the orange giant Aldebaran. To its lower right
is the beautiful cluster of more than 100 stars in the Pleiades,
some seven of which are visible to the naked eye as a tiny dipper.
Pioneer 10, which passed near Jupiter in 1973, will pass near
Aldebaran around the year 2,001,973, some 67 light years away. Last
Friday's thin crescent Moon setting beneath Mercury was spectacular.
If you haven't spotted Mercury low in the W/SW around 6:45pm, take a
look tonight. It will be lost in the sun's glare in another week. An
observer one km north of my location, with darker surroundings,
located Eridanus, the river of faint stars meandering from Rigel to
Achenar, which I could not see. I few nearby lights make all the
difference in the universe. A glance at one, or even its reflection,
can prevent your eyes from adapting to the dark. Tom S. Send

in front of my house it is fully in bloom with a thousand bees,
large moths and humming birds covering it around 5:30 in the
evening. These are fabulous shade trees and grow very fast.. My
