Kelly' Exercise Class Changes: In an effort to
accommodate my students travel distances and time schedules I have
decided to hold my classes at Quadman ATV Rentals centrally located
in downtown Los Barriles across from the old Meri-Med building.
Classes are Tues. & Fri. from 7:30 - 8:45. You will need to bring
your own yoga mat and weights, there will be no spares to loan out.
Enter the front of Quadman and proceed to the large back open space.

Baja Night Sky--Monday Jan. 5, and Tuesday evenings
are probably your last chance to see Venus' bright crescent in the
west. It sets less than half an hour after sunset. In a few more
days it will be caught in the sun's glare, then reappear in a few
weeks as the "morning star" in the east. Mercury will take the place
of Venus as the evening star; it will be more difficult to spot.
Last night Earth passed between the sun and Jupiter, our closest
approach until the next decade, though we will still pass between it
and the sun about every 13 months. We're still between them for a
few nights, so at midnight, when the sun is below your feet, Jupiter
will be overhead. It is worth going outside between 10pm and 2am --
preferably at midnight -- to see, from southern horizon to zenith,
Canopus, Sirius, and Jupiter, the three brightest in tonight's sky.
Nearby are Procyon, Betelegeuse, Rigel and Aldebran. Can you tell
them apart?
Antares (the heart of Scorpius), Saturn, Spica and Mars climb the
southeast sky before sunrise in that order. If Antares were to
replace our sun, it would swallow up Mercury, Venus, Earth, and
Mars. It is a red supergiant and a candidate for the next exploding
supernova. We are long overdue. The last one we know of in our
galaxy was Kepler's supernova of 1604. The big dipper is upside down
almost overhead to the north. Follow its handle across the sky to
Arcturus. Vega is just rising over the middle of Cerralvo in the NE.
If you have never seen the Southern Cross, 5:30-5:45am is the time
to catch it just above the southern horizon. You will need to block
out street/house lights with a book or building, if they are to your
south, then look for a small upright cross standing almost on the
south point of the horizon.
Finally, for anyone with a birthday this coming Sunday, I have
arranged for a bright candle to be lit over the middle of Isla
Cerralvo at 6:35:25pm (10-20 seconds earlier in LB and CSL). Go
outdoors at least 5 minutes beforehand so your eyes can start to
adapt to the dark. Watch the sky about 2/3 of the way to the zenith
in the NE. Keep watch. It will be brighter than the brightest star,
but will only flare up for 4-8 seconds. Happy Birthday!

good flan. I must admit it has been a challenge in LB over the
years. We had some good flan, interesting flan and cheesecake flan
but the grand prize goes to Jill from Joe's deli. This Michelin
star grade. Never had better - ever! It is by special order so
don't go in expecting it in the deli case.
