SPANISH FOR BEGINNERS:  Being able to communicate with the locals adds richness to a Baja experience. Come join a small group, in an informal setting, and learn the basics. As one student claimed, “It’s easy to learn and have fun at the same time!” Hear Spanish spoken by our town librarian, with grammar explained by me, Kay Mundt. Classes will be two days a week, starting January 27 and ending February 27. 141-0418 kay.mundt@gmail.com

Worried or confused about the new privacy changes Gmail has made, allowing Google+ users to send you email WITHOUT your email address?  Here is the low-down on what is going on and what to do about it: http://tinyurl.com/n5hqzj8  ••• craig@geekami.com •••  www.bajamary.com

With the recent security breaches at Target and other brand name stores its time to protect yourself against personal ID theft with some simple solutions.  Exactly what is ID Theft?  Excellent question, I’m glad you asked.  The bad guys hack into a commercial or government server and steal all your information including dates of birth, SS numbers, addresses and all the important information to open credit using your name and good credit standing.  It can take years to repair your good name and recover your credit.  Here’s what to do to prevent that from happening.  First step is a credit freeze.  That makes you bullet proof from someone trying to takeover your credit.  I did that several years ago. I can hand out my information to anyone without fear.  There is an easy to follow guide on the Clark Howard web site.  Here’s the link:  http://www.clarkhoward.com/news/clark-howard/personal-finance-credit/credit-freeze-and-thaw-guide/nFbL/    When you get started make sure you copy the PIN that each of the 3 credit reporting agency gives you.  You will need that number to temporarily thaw your credit if you apply for a loan or credit card in the future.  Second, how about free credit monitoring - http://www.clarkhoward.com/videos/clark-howard/consumer-issues-id-theft/free-credit-monitoring-service/vX3N/

ID theft protection does not protect you against credit card theft.  I check my card balances daily.  I look for small seemingly insignificant charges.  You can buy a stolen credit card number on-line for between 1 – 10 dollars.  The bad guys will charge a small amount to see if the card is still valid.  Then they buy the flat screen TV.  I spotted one two years ago for a $1.85 and sure enough it was from a web site known for illegal activity.

PIN’s on your ATM card are triple encoded and bullet proof.  What’s not bullet proof is the guy with a smart phone who has just taken a picture of your card and is video recording your PIN as you enter into at Target.  Cover your hand when you enter the PIN and do not hand any cards to the clerk until she needs it!!!  My wife proof reads all this and she just dozed off again.  More good stuff later?
