The Planet Mercury can is in the
southwest about half an hour after sunset. I spotted it last
night through a break in the clouds at 6:30pm. Binoculars
help. Most city folk have never seen this planet
before?.Venus is easy to find from about 5:30am until
sunrise in the Southeast sky.
An New Supernova exploded in a distant galaxy Tuesday
evening. One type of supernova is created from giant stars
like Betelgeuse in Orion that are low on fuel. Pressure from
the Atomic Fusion Furnace at their center is overcome by
gravity, and the entire star collapses. The collapse causes
new pressure and heat, causing a gigantic nuclear explosion.
This is how most of the elements we are made of are created
and dispersed into space for recycling. If you have a 4 inch
or larger telescope you should be able to find the
supernova in the galaxy known as M82 near the bowl of the
Big Dipper after 8:30pm. A diagonal line through bowl stars
Dubhe (the last one) and Phecda, extended upward its own
length, ends near M82. Google M82 Supernova for more help.
If it becomes brighter, it will be reported here.
A Late Note: What a lucky night. The power went out for 5
hours in El Sargento leaving us with a very dark sky. At 8pm
I counted 50 stars in Orion. Then with binoculars I spotted
the faint Crab Nebula of Baja Cave Painting fame in
Gemini before the power came back on at 8:19pm.

I’ve had a couple friends with houses North of the Buenos Aires
Arroyo who’s water bills have skyrocketed the last 2 months for no
apparent reason. Has anyone else had the same problem? What I
suspect is that those folks who do not have an air release valve
installed just before their water meter were having airflow spinning
the meters significantly faster than normal. The air would have been
entering the line each day as the old main waterline was dug up and
destroyed while the new road construction/repaving was going on in
both the Buenos Aires and San Bartolo Arroyos. If your water bills
have been high for no reason and you do not have an air release
valve installed, would you please respond to

so we can possibly negotiate with SAPA, (the water authority), and
get the bills reduced. If my theory is correct this problem
should just be affecting those homes from Buenos Aires north.
