I have been using Slingbox for a couple of years now and I love it.  We live in Minnesota where I have the Slingbox hooked up to my Directv receiver.  We can watch everything on the MN receiver anywhere there is an internet connection.  We have the slowest DSL line in our Baja house and it still performs okay.  There is an occasional buffer but that is manageable considering the extra cost to move to a faster line.  The best reception is on my iPad and iPhone and is nearly HD quality.  We like to watch it on our 42” TV, but to do that I have to use the laptop because it has an HDMI port.  It works pretty well but there is some loss of picture quality.  We also have Dish TV in Baja so I am paying for both services at the same time.  That is the biggest con for me. The only other con is that it is a little cumbersome to use the controls on the computer, iPad, etc. because there is a delay when the input is uploaded, received in MN, processed, and downloaded back to the receiving unit in Baja. But, being a sport fan, I am able to watch the Vikings, Timberwolves, and Twins.  It is also nice to watch the local news to see what is going on.

I used a sling box attached to my cable box located in Alaska last December to watch a couple episodes of my favorite series. It worked fine the first time . The second time I had some trouble with connection interruption due to Internet connectivity with my shared group internet signal. Either there were too many neighbors online at that time or the provider on the Baja signal side was having trouble...which is common. My IT guy suggested I download to record in the middle of the night to watch later. I have not tried this yet. But plan to do this when my series starts up again. My fingers are crossedJ

I use only Slingbox...and it really works more than acceptably.  I feel you should know two things:

1. The upload speed at your home where the Slingbox will be connected to your equipment needs to be as FAST as you can get.  This is the limiting bandwidth factor.  The download speeds in Los Barriles are generally fast enough...although it seems between 6:00pm and 8:00pm the local network is congested (kids on-line?)

2. Slingbox is not great for sports...the screens change too fast for Slingbox to keep up.

..otherwise I think it works great

Hi,  We have been using a slingbox most of this year.  The only problem we had is when our neighbor in the US teenage kids would down load music  why we were watching tv down hear.  I understand you need a strong singnal .  Ours in US is 5 and down hear is 5 also an we have no problem. We enjoy watching our local news an keeping up with what is going on in our town...Hope this helps. sandy
