Heads up on the guys walking through town and all the way past Agua de la Costa. This is the second time I have had them enter through closed gates at Quinta Maria even after I have asked them not to enter private property two weeks ago. I heard them conversing on their cell phones giving the location of where they were at, made me feel uncomfortable and unsafe.  Kelly W. Martin

Someone tried to scam us today. Very similar to the scam posted on the Pony November 2012. We also know of someone else who they tried to scam last week. I answered the phone and they said hey how are you. Line was kind of staticy and I thought it was our friend Dave from back home. I said is that you Dave, he said yes they are in la Paz and will be here for a visit in an hour. He called back about one and a half hours later and said there has been a problem. He is with the police and not sure if will make it now. Line cut off. I went to find a translator and was told that someone else received a call last week the same way and it is a scam. The translator suggested we verify who it was by asking something only they and you would know.  The s called back again and we did just that and they had no idea what to say so hung up and have not called back. They are trying to get money out of you to help your friend in trouble. Be wary, it is a scam.  Brenda Ogilvie

Windows XP will see "end of life" on April 8, 2014. That is the date of their final security patch. If you are running XP, your computer will continue to run but Microsoft will no longer publish security patches for XP. Your computer will be vulnerable to hackers! The good news - all anti-virus makers including Microsoft will offer updates for their respective programs. That may not give you real time protection against hackers. If you continue to use Windows XP beyond that date, do NOT use Microsoft's Internet Explorer since it will no longer be patched. Firefox and Chrome may be more secure. Run as a limited user. Go to Control Panel, User Accounts and set up a new account as a "limited user" and not "administrator". If you have not done so previously, set-up a password for the "administrator" account. Running as a "limited user" will require you to enter a password anytime changes are made or for software installation. Remember most Virus Attacks require you to install something. If your computer asks you to enter a password, think twice!!! If you live next door to a geek, it's an easy change to make. Takes less than 5 minutes and most of that time is boot-up. Bottom line - After 8 April 2014, I would not use a Windows XP computer for banking or financial transactions on line.

No matter what operating system you use - if you have teenagers in the house, it is a great idea to create a "limited user account" for them to use separate from you. Teens are most vulnerable to virus temptations. Here is one example: They get a message seemingly from a Facebook friend who asks them if they would like to see the photos taken last night. Next they are prompted to download a program to view the photos. Next they call you - "This computer just stopped working!?" Then you pay real money to have the computer cleaned.

Buyer beware - If you are tempted to buy a computer running Windows XP, you are buying a computer that will be extremely vulnerable on April 8th!!!

d.  I have a casa between the two arroyas north of town and have an issue with my past water usage/invoice. I've reviewed my statement and over the last several years my bill has varied from 100 pesos a month to 1000 pesos a month. Last month it went up to over 5000 pesos a month. I had everything checked out for leaks and it's all good. I also have an air vent installed before the meter. I have seen posts regarding water bills in the BPE before. In my opinion as a master plumber the problem is not on my side of the meter and was wondering if anybody has had any luck getting this problem corrected. Bob drserafin@yahoo.com
