The La Ventana WindFest will be held January 20-22.
It will be a 3 day event uniting the windsurfing and kitesurfing communities of La Ventana with fun, friends, competition, and celebration. Race events include Fast Track, Course Racing, Hot Springs Downwinder, and Big Air. Race Director Robbie Dean (from the San Diego Yacht Club) will be the Race Coordinator. Awards and raffle prizes will be awarded in all categories. PROJECTO X returns for a second year and will be held on the 22nd at 4Elements Kiteboarding, along with the awards ceremony. Manufacturers have just adopted standards for Ultra High Definition TV (UHDTV or 4KTV). Those standards affect “streaming media”, DVD Players, cables, etc. Make sure you get one manufactured to the new standards. UHD Streaming will be difficult in Baja since the bandwidth requirements for UHD are 5 times higher than currently available. Direct TV & Dish have announced a UHD broadcast goal. You can expect prices to drop rapidly as more sets arrive on the market. But, don’t expect a lot of content for some time.

Google Translate on mobile data devices can translate in real time. Using the camera function, it can translate signs. You can now carry on a conversation with someone of a different language via Google Translate. Okay, you can't expect rapid fire conversations.
Iphone/ipad using IOS 7 or 8 text messages are color coded. Blue messages mean that it was sent using IMessage over data rather than the normal SMS texting method. In Mexico, you can put your device in Airplane Mode, WiFi on and text for free! In English, Blue Texts are free and Green are charged as a Text Message. Have an Android, try using Text Plus for free texting.
Iphone/Ipad users, if you haven't updated to IOS 8, it's still better to wait. There are still unresolved WiFi issues yet to be fully resolved. If you upgrade to 8, you cannot go back to 7. Apple is not alone – the latest upgrade version of Android has WiFi problems as well.

a.  FYI:  We just got back from Guadalajara where we renewed our U.S. passports. The passport photos we had taken in both La Paz and Los Barriles were not acceptable---to small. When they say 2"x2" that is what they mean. Luckily there is an enterprising young man across from the Consulate who takes the proper size photos and has them ready in 5 min.

National flights are now landing in Terminal 1. Anyone coming in from mainland Mexico should be picked up in Terminal 1. The Terminal is not open for full business but they are coming along.
