Baseball Camp in Los Barriles
March 21st at 9am - 1pm will be the Sawyers Camp right here in Los
Barriles at the soccer fields - which are off the bypass dirt road.
The turn is across from the bright green building not far off the
hwy. (A map will be sent to the BPE for Friday)
We can use some granola bars or cookies for snacks for the kids. We
are also still looking for helpers to assist our coaches or help
with snacks and registration. The DIF will provide shade tents and
drinks for the camp. We invite everyone to come out and see what we
are doing with the camp and see the talent that these kids have. If
you can help with the camp or can donate stuff for snacks, please
let me know.

smile from the wonderful people we live with. Classes are informal,
small, and always fun. Hear Spanish spoken by our local librarian,

teaching this class together for 13 years and anyone who has
previously attended may audit without charge. For details, email:

Los Barriles Dog Show Report
Thank you to everyone who came to support the first Los Barriles Dog
Show. We were so happy to see so many of you enjoying the amazing
antics, skills and talents of our lovely Baja doggies. This was the
for
whole community, and we’re delighted that our dogs can bring
together and unite us in laughter and enjoyment. We would like to
thank the Delegado Ramiro Hirales Silva for opening the show,
Matilde from the Directora de Cultura Municipal La Paz, The
Schutzhund Association from La Paz, the Van Wormer family for
trusting us to hold the show on their beautiful lawn, and our many
sponsors who were slightly confused at the start as to what this was
going to look like!
http://www.bajakennelclub.com/sponsors/ A big THANK YOU to
all the volunteers, and particularly Tracey from The Barkery for her
agility training and on-going patience, and of course we have to
mention our great double act Theresa and Duke for their up-beat,
humorous and often bi-lingual commentary.
1. Dogs on the day – we have over 135 dogs register for the show
which we think is amazing! There were also ‘spectator dogs’ but
we’re not sure about this number. We estimate that there were around
500 spectators throughout the day.
2. Photos – you can see lots and lots of photos at
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Baja-Kennel-Club/712151628838490
or for the professional photos, go to Lori Makabe’s site at
http://1609218630.pictology.com/. (Click on Los Barriles
Dog Show 2015. Then put in password show15. Then click on ‘view all
images’). These high quality photos are simply stunning, and Lori
will be making a donation to the dog show for any that you buy.
3. T-shirts – you can still buy the eye-catching designer t-shirts
that were specially designed for us. All you need to do is email
kjrjones2007@hotmail.com
with your size. They are $200.00 pesos.
4. Lost items – we found a blue chair back and a pair of glasses.
Email me if you think they are yours.
emma@bajakennelclub.com
5. Certificates – if you didn’t collect your certificate, then
please let me know and we will try to arrange to get one to you.
6. Volunteers’ Thank You – we will be having a volunteers’ thank you
drinks at Lazy Daze on Thursday, and a mini presentation to give the
proceeds of the show to the neutering and spaying groups.
7. Monies raised - The condition of the donation is that there are
two additional spaying and neutering clinics this calendar year in
Los Barriles. Any left-over monies will go towards additional
clinics and emergency neutering and spaying events.
Hopefully we will see you all next year – so everyone get training
and practicing now!

Baja Night Sky #77 -- March 19, 2015: 1) Venus, with Mars
hiding a fist below, is the bright evening "star." Jupiter is high
in the east. NASA just announced that Jupiter's largest moon,
Ganymede, likely has more water than Earth's oceans. You can spot 4
of the 63 moons using binoculars. Also in the east, Leo the Lion is
chasing the hunter Orion westward. In a couple of months you can
tell Orion goodbye as Leo & its bright star Regulus dominate the
spring sky. To find Leo, look for the backward question mark forming
the lion's mane. New moon and the first day of Spring arrive
tomorrow, Friday, March 20. Take note of where the sun rises/sets on
Friday for a good approximation of true east/west.
2) For reasons not completely understood, there are more fireballs,
super bright meteors flashing across the sky, around the Spring
Equinox than the rest of the year. So with weather warming up and
clearer skies, now is a great time to find a dark sky location
nearby, invite some friends over, and enjoy the evening watching the
Baja Night Sky.
3) Thank you, Rodrigo and crew from Rancho Sotol, and the guests who
attended a Baja-Night-Sky stargazing party at the Rancho's
enchantingly beautiful dark-sky location high above El Sargento.
Weather was perfect for a tour of the night sky and its many Greek &
Native American legends, spotting faint Messier objects with
binoculars, and recounting the great supernova of 1054, recorded in
petroglyphs by Baja Indians. Contact
info@ranchosotol.com
if you are interested in another stargazing night, or have ideas for
a new event at the Rancho. Also visit
www.ranchosotol.com
for an online tour.
4) After the dark-sky event, several long-time residents commented
that the drive back into light-polluted El Sargento and La Ventana
was a shocker. They had forgotten the great dark skies we used to
have. Bringing them back will be difficult, but they would attract
people who enjoy visiting Dark-Sky locations. Click on the links
below for resources about the impact of light pollution, and how to
retro-fit or make first-time installations of dark-sky light
fixtures that will enhance the ambiance and value of both
residential and commercial property.

DISCUSSIONS-
This category must have name and/or email address.
a. Phone Scams: To answer the
question posted how do they (scam artists) get phone numbers. My
guess to how people know your phone numbers and name is if you get a
phone book it lists it by city in Baja Sur. Even street names if you
have one. Dean in LaVentana
