RECYCLE NEWS! We're baaaaacccck..
Regular monthly recycling days (first Thursday of each month) return
to the East Cape on November 5!! Following a successful and
productive summer providing environmental eduction for 100+ children
during Cursos de Verano (more about this later..), East Cape
Recycling Baja will be accepting prepared recycling materials from
9-11am at our Recycling Center located at the south end of East Cape
Casas & RV Resort (entrance is across from the Modelorama). For a
list of what we accept, please see our website

Our growing program needs more VOLUNTEERS! Please come help us for a

Oct.22....I just came down from Mexicali to just south of Bahia San
Luis Gonzaga over the past weekend. Ten or so miles south of Bahia
San Luis Gonzaga you have to make the overland trek over 24 miles of
brutal dirt/rock road. to connect up at Chapala Jct. Hwy 5 is pretty
decent but between Puertecitos and Bahia San Luis Gonzaga be very
aware of the notices for VADO's some can be brutal and you will see
where a lot of cars have bottomed out in them This is now my third
time taking this route, and providing you allow yourself 2 hours for
the 24 miles or dirt/rock you are good to go. Hwy 5 itself is pretty
much good for the first 150 miles, then just another Mexican bitumen
road until you get just north of Bahia San Luis Gonzaga, when it
becomes a great road again but only for 10 miles when you hit the
dirt.
b.
Cell Phones: Regarding cell phones. If you have AT&T in the
States, your phone will now default to Nextel instead of Telcel
(because, apparently, AT&T has some sort of contract agreement with
Nextel). Nextel is not fully compatible with AT&T so many of the
functions that work perfectly when using Telcel as the carrier will
not function if you are connected to Nextel.
I contacted AT&T International at 916-843-4685 and they were able to
solve this problem for me using an IPhone. Don’t know if this is an
issue with other types of phones.
They can send you the option to choose your carrier. It shows up in
the Settings under Cellular AFTER YOU TURN OFF YOUR PHONE AND TURN
IT BACK ON. It is called Carrier. You click on this, turn off Auto.
the phone will search available carriers. You can manually select
Telcel and all phone functions will magically start working. Or at
least they did on my phone.
