We are
saddened to announce the passing of Marty Lentz, an 18 year resident
of Los Barriles. Marty has been an energetic contributor to the East
Cape community. She was a charter member of the Los Barriles Rotary
Club, member of the East Cape Anglers, East Cape Guild, Arts
Association and one of the founders of East Cape Dental and East
Cape Health Clinic. Marty and Jack have been the driving force
behind Lord of the Wind for six years.
Marty was a successful business woman in San Diego and
her philanthropy continued throughout Southern California; she was
passionate about helping her communities and others. Marty is
survived by her husband Jack Lentz. She will be greatly missed.
Services are set for Feb 6th 10:00am at the St Paul’s
Cathedral, San Diego, California.

BIG CHANGES FOR OUR CARNAVAL
PARADE
Hello All,
Francis Olachea, Delegada de Los Barriles, came to our
Rotary meeting Wednesday, January 20th, to let us know a group of
children from La Paz, including the queen of their Carnaval, would
like to join us for our Carnaval. This grants us a great opportunity
to extend our fiesta to include one of our largest neighbors in a
combined celebration. In order to accept their offer, we are moving
our Carnaval to Saturday, February 20th.
Our Carnaval will proceed just as it has in past years,
only it will be much larger. The parade will begin at the Plaza
across from the Fountains at 4pm and proceed through town to our
Laguna Park, where we will have a fiesta with prizes for the best
costume and the crowning of our Queen of the Carnaval. This will be
a Carnaval unlike any we've seen here before.
We are scheduling a meeting for Tuesday, January 26th
at 2:15 pm at the Roadrunner Restaurant to discuss details.

This year’s Lord of the Wind, our
6th annual competition, has finished. And while we are still
cleaning up, we wanted to thank the community of Los Barriles,
participants, sponsors and all who came down to watch. This year’s
event was fantastic with more participants and spectators than ever
before. The wind did not let us down and neither did the competitors
who presented their phenomenal skills on the water. On land we had a
packed beach of spectators watching these amazing feats (in addition
to a couple whales who decided to put in some side show
entertainment). And at the end of the day we wrapped up with evening
events that enabled the athletes and the spectators to mix it up
with a little relaxation and celebration. Lastly, in addition to The
Lord of the Wind competition being a fantastic time, the proceeds of
this event go to our local Rotary Club who use these funds to
support local social well-being, health care, and aid to the
children. All in all, this year’s Lord of the Wind event was the
best one yet, and we could not have done this without your
assistance.
