b.  Just a heads up for anybody who’s coming up to La Paz We are heading north and obviously home with surfboard on roof etc. and just pulled over by police telling us that because we are a truck pulling a trailer we are considered a “double remolque” and the speed limit for us is slower than other vehicles! So he pulled us over and tried to tell us that we could either follow him to the police station or pay the ticket!! We said no…we were not speeding… And we thanked him for the warning… He tried to argue with John in favor of giving us a ticket and I refused to let him intimidate us. I told him that we were on vacation and that we love Baja California and we love La Paz and we never drive fast and I just said NO…we were not going faster than the flow of traffic! Just a heads up… he said he had already given 20 tickets to American‘s today! When asked how many tickets we had, we said none he said so today will be your first ticket? I took off my sunglasses and said “NO” today will not be our first ticket!!!! There were lightning bolts coming out of my eyes!!! And my inside voice was saying… you can try to intimidate my husband but you will not intimidate me, little man…I bet you’re not even a real policeman!!!
He said thank you and shook my hand and let us go! SHEEESH!!!!
They were dressed like policeman but they were in a white truck with an insignia on the side but they didn’t have the arrogance and the professionalism of policeman but were very good with their intimidation routine…then I said “ we are not a “double remolque”…(and my inside voice said “ you little jerk“) …maybe the trick is to ask them if they are policeman? Or to ask to see their identification? I don’t think it’s necessary if you go far enough with the game and refuse to play… Also real policeman will pull up in municipal police cars and federal in federal vehicles… and will be much more professional and not wave their ticket book in your face and say that they have given 20 tickets to American’s today already! c.  Quads on Beach:  I heard that the Federales had stopped various gringos on quads, accompanied them to their homes to view passports and visas. e.  I successfully reafiliated with Seguro Popular this morning at their office on Nicholas Bravo in La Paz. Took my passport, and a utility bill .  When I arrived and it was determined I was already in the system, my Residencia Temporal card was used, rather than my passport.  The office was on the ground floor, through well-signed glass doors.  Only one person was in line. The clerk spoke some English and we got through a few questions to determine what had changed since my original application in 2012. I was given my new letter of affiliation which is dated to expire in three years, and the current 80-page booklet explains Seguro Popular.  My trip to La Paz was required because I missed the visit by Seguro Popular staff to Los Barriles in March. Suggest phoning to check well ahead of your anniversary date to determine when staff plan to visit Los Barriles.  The phone numbers in La Paz are:   612 165 4376 and 612 128 9243.
