LOST-FOUND-FIDO-MORRIS

a.. Fido note:  ** CORTEZ RESCUE ** is looking for Puppy Cuddlers!  Can you spend an hour or two a week cuddling our sweet puppies and doggies at Dr Gretel’s clinic?!  90% of them have homes to go to in Canada and the US, but they can’t leave until June, July and August.  They’re absolutely adorable and make you happy to be alive!  If you’re still in town and can help out, we guarantee it will be rewarding.  Send us an email to arrange:info@cortezrescue.org. Click here for pictures: https://goo.gl/5AjvmG
Also…..If you know anyone flying to Minneapolis at the end of June, we will pay for their flight from SJD to Minneapolis!  We have two dogs with their forever homes in Minnesota, and we desperately need to get them there!  Thanks  Emma

DISCUSSIONS – ANSWERS – ANNOUNCEMENTS

a.  Unfortunate incident at Coco’s Corner between  Catavina and Gonzaga Bay while heading Norte Thur.,May 10 at 1 P.M. We pulled in after the very bumpy road all burnt out from drive for beverages and at same time an American brand dark color pickup pulled up heading Norte too. 2 stringy haired dark haired middle aged adults (skinny tall man/relatively short woman-Gringos) with solid brown bird dog. The man and dog only came in for instant but woman bought water and then they were gone. We thought we heard they were from Fresno. We left and my wife realized her purse was gone. Dummy, Pendejo me rolled up his window but did not lock his side. Middle of nowhere….should be OK….No…Duh! Just a warning… bad roads don’t always bring good people. If anyone knows of these creeps let us know or just beware if you see them. Bruce and Christine

b.  ROAD REPORT:  I just drove up the Baja, on Mexico 1,crossed at Tecate, and I have to say road conditions greatly improved since I drove down December 2017. Around Cataviña it was improved also but some potholes. Nothing like the huge swallow your vehicle up, in December. Also, no traffic at the Tecate crossing, I was through and back in good old USA in about 5 minutes.

c.  A good story!!!  Arrived in El Rosario and realized my purse was gone. We called the new market across the street from the hotel in Cataviva to ask if they found it in the bathroom. They had it and won’t give it to anyone but me. So I drove back to Cataviva. Everything was there…..telephone, credit cards, many pesos, keys, etc! Please stop there and have a cup of coffee or ice cream!!! I’m back in El Rosario now, but am so grateful. Karen Hunt

QUESTIONS

a.  Looking for someone to caravan down the Baja to Los Barriles from San Diego/Tijuana area leaving June 7th. Vehicle is packed so looking for someone to caravan in their own vehicle. Call or text Sean at 831-588-2715 or Lori at 831-227-4582.

b. Looking for Yellow Oleander Trees. Some call it Fortuna Tree. Latin name Thevetia peruviana. They are all over town and elsewhere. Anyone know where they can be bought? Thanks  kke@edge2.net

c.  We are coming down for three months next winter and rather than drive from Alaska are wondering about a long-term car rental instead. We could rent in Tijuana/San Diego and return there (I do want to do the drive down the peninsula one of these years) or just fly to San Jose and return it there. Can anyone recommend one company over others for such a rental? Jim jimleshak@gmail.com

d.  Question for someone who has recently entered Baja in a motorhome: Did you have to purchase a Temporary Import Permit (TIP) for the motorhome? Which crossing?  BajaRoncho@mac.com

e.  Looking for a report on recent road conditions on the stretch from Hwy 1 down into Bahia de Los Angeles. BajaRoncho@mac.com

EVENTS

a.  Benefit dinner for the recycling program in El Cardonal. Sunday, May 20, 5:30 at El Hornilla. Dinner will include 2 types of fish, ceviche, red and green enchiladas, tostadas, rice, beans, 2 types of salsa, guacamole, corn and flour tortillas AND chocolate dessert, all washed down with sangria, while you listen to music. All this for $15.00 or $255 pesos. El Cardonal has been doing such a great job recycling that a new, larger trailor is needed, as well as gas, tires and containers. Please come and enjoy a magnificent dinner while supporting the recycling effort! questions bajaus.scott@gmail.com

b.  You are all invited to attend the East Cape Guild’s last general meeting of the season this Wednesday, May 16th at 11 am in Rancho Buena Vista’s dining room. If you are interested in our mission and are considering joining the Guild, please come.  We will be focusing our discussion on what our fund raising efforts have accomplished toward providing as many scholarships for deserving local high school students as possible. This year’s Scholarship Awards Ceremony will take place Saturday, May 19th, 6 pm at La Cancha (next to Tio Pablo’s & across from the Palmas). This year the Guild is providing scholarships to 203 qualified students. All are welcome-a heartwarming experience to see how grateful and excited these kids and their families are.  The more education these kids have, the better off Mexico is and the better off we gringos are.  If coming to the meeting, please contact Jill Borggreve at b2jborg@gmail.com
