Re: HELP for my Oleanders. I had 30+ replies to my question. Some of you have the same problem and others with possible solutions. Thought I should post the results I got. Thank you all for responding as too many to reply to each one. Here is the answer I got from an agriculturalist in Los Planes. He said it is a grub that is eating the roots. It starts with one branch dying and then eventually the whole plant dies. There is a product that he got for me, in La Paz at PASSA Agroservisios, called “Interfuran” that you mix with water and put directly on the dirt around the plant or put holes ( 1 inch by16 inches) in the dirt and pour it down the holes. This will stop the grub and the plants will survive. The product is highly toxic so please if you use it then keep the animals away from it.   bajastayfish@hotmail.com

a.  Could it be you? Do you know how to swim? Do you like kids? Could you help our community’s kids become water safe? We need three ‘Swim Assistants’ for this summer’s camp/Curso de Verano. We will have only 5 children in a pool at a time with a ratio of slightly more than 1:1. There will be four, 50-minute classes each Wednesday & Thursday from 8 am to 2 pm, starting July 11 for kids 6 – 12 years old and grouped by age. Please join us and be part of our team! You could do all or part to meet your schedule. We are also looking for one Swim Instructors will be using the Red Cross Program. We want to have water safe children, helping them put their faces into the sea so they know how precious and important the Sea of Cortez is. I am saddened to announce the passing of Jack Lentz on June 20^th. Jack was a 20 year resident of Los Barriles and a significant supporter of many local non-profits. Jack and Marty, until her passing, were active in Rotary, The East Cape Urgent Care Clinic, The East Cape Dental Clinic, The Guild, Lord of the Wind, and much more. Jack and Marty were significant supporters of his church and youth sports through South Western Yacht club. Jack was the founder and CEO of Annex Brands with corporate offices in San Diego

Jack will be remembered as a philanthropist, quite spoken, a true gentleman and good friend to all of us that had the pleasure of knowing him. Services will be in mid July in San Diego.

b.  Another car stopped north of LaPaz:  We were stopped near the turnoff to Magote/Pemex yesterday heading North.  Two officers (one on either side) approached the car.  The fellow told me that I was speeding and I said I was not speeding in a firm voice, and waving my hands NO.  Then he said I was swerving on the road.  I continued to say no, no, I was doing nothing wrong!!  He then told me to proceed, but to be careful.  Most of this in Spanish with some English.  I say, hold your ground if you were doing nothing wrong. c.  Just wanted to share my experience, though it’s kind of embarrassing they almost got away with it…  Before returning our rental car to Alamo, we stopped at that Pemex before the turn into the airport. We needed about half a tank. The guy filled it up and then immediately punched in some numbers so I couldn’t see how many liters were put in. He told me 1350 pesos and I wasn’t thinking or converting into USD in my mind, just kind of in a hurry, and gave him the pesos. (If it matters, I’m a 50+ female and my husband was in the car) So it hit me on the way out how it was about $65 for less than half a tank of gas and we turned around. The guy had pesos in his hand ready to give to us, knowing what he had done. He printed out the ‘ticket’ showing what the total cost was supposed to be (around 700 pesos) and tried to give us the 400 pesos in his hand to resolve it. Of course that wasn’t enough and we finally got the full amount back, but just be aware…
