a. Baja Night Sky – Rising Full Moon Wednesday at 7:14pm. The weekend will have dark moonless skies. Four planets shine in the west among a scorpion and teakettle. b. Let’s talk security cameras. I use four different types but I will only mention the two easiest to use. For cloud storage and monitoring, I use outdoor Nest Cams. The Nest Cams record to servers and store for 7 days in the cloud with a subscription. You also get alerts where there is motion. I have used Nest for over 7 years and they all still work. The Nest cams require a lot of upstream internet (bandwidth) so that limits your internet when you are at home (Baja). When I’m home (Baja), I switch to Wyze Cams. I use the Wyze Cams in local recording mode to a 32 GB SD card purchased separately. The Wyze Cam can be set to record only on motion and send an alert to your phone. Great quality! Both cameras can be setup to share access and recording. The downside to the Wyze is the difficulty accessing them while in the US – too long to explain. Facebook recently had 50 million users’ data hacked. The big deal was the exposure of “tokens” that are used to sign-in to other apps and web sites. For a brief period, the crooks could have used those tokens to gain access to any web site or app that you used Facebook as a means of signing into those sites. Bottom line, don’t use Facebook to sign up for other websites! Remember Facebook as well as Google is in the business of selling your profile to advertisers and others! Anytime you “like” something, that adds to your sell-able profile. Even if you don’t have a Facebook account, their facial recognition software begins to profile and sell you. thecomputerguy@usa.com
c. Border crossing: Got turned around at the Tecate border crossing this morning. I drive a converted, restored 1945 Chevy bus that has passed through with no problems several times over the years. They said my registration identifies it as a passenger bus that can only go through Tijuana. No buses through Tecate. Beware of their strict zero tolerance, just like ours.
