a. Answer – Mexican diesel fuel in Baja:
- The ONLY diesels that were ever affected by high sulfur levels in Mexican diesel fuel were the ones that use Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF). That is, 2011 and later models, so a 2005 model would be unaffected.2. Retail gas stations everywhere in Mexico have been pumping ultra-low-sulfur-diesel (ULSD) since April 2018. The conversion to ULSD was achieved well ahead of the Dec 31st, 2018 final date for conversion set by the Mexican Government. Bottom line, the days of sulfur-in-fuel issues for modern diesel owners in Mexico are over. During your trip you will see Chevron, Esso, Repsol, and other gas stations, as well as Pemex. The market is now open to competition, and some of the stations are actively advertising that they have ULSD. Ed (Ted) White
