  1.  UPDATE on Aqua de la Costa road project: Jim Hall – Copied from FB, written 2/25/21Conversation Starter – Phase 1 Grading the road using a metal drag, applying a soil that compacts and stays in place to the worst sections of the road due to numerous rocks. Watering the road to help increase compaction and settle the dust. Thanks to the volunteers who helped that day. Bo donated his time an truck to pull the drag. Bill and Dave who helped the drag truck. And a big ThankYou to the hardest workers out there .Debbie Fromberg and Samatha Green with her two little helpers. They walked the road behind the drag and picked up rocks and threw them to the side of the road. To our Mayor Luis who supplied a water truck and two men to help throw rocks out of the road as well. Phase 2 Starting tomorrow we will be adding more of the Red soil to the road. If you have seen the yellow caution tape along side the road those are the next areas for applying red soil. There are times there may be slight delay in the narrow sections. Please be patient. Your in Mexico , relax, LOL. The trucks are very busy at this time so I did a drive through with the operator and they will bring loads of dirt when they can. Phase 3 Identify the next sections to be worked. My plan is to set back money for once a week watering for 4 weeks and use the rest of your donations to buy soil until the money runs out. If the people using the road see a benefit in the weekly watering we might be able to set something up to create a bank to keep the weekly water truck going. On another note, My neighbor and I pooled our money and bought 7 loads of red soil applied in front of our casa’s to reduce the dust. A person asked me if that was part of the road work money. So just to clear that up. No it was not, we paid for it out of pocket. I do have a spread sheet of all the money received and expenditures if anyone wants to see it. New News: The Mayor has asked me if I would assist him in a similar project on some of the roads in town. Priority being the roads that would help relieve the traffic through town. The road behind Palmas de Cortez to the highway. The cut off road The Cemetery road. We have not worked out the details yet but hopefully there are enough folks in town and those that drive through town, to raise enough money to do all three roads. Mayor Luis Lucero is going to meet with some of the local businesses and construction companies to see what they can do to help us meet our goals.   3. The classes started 2 weeks ago with the Art For Children Program where 2 groups of 5 children each, and a 2 years old little girl taking paint lessons with Xochitl Rivera . We’re also starting the Craft Club with Yedid Castro next Saturday, March 06th, this program initially was for a 5 children group, but due to the parents’ requests, we are adding a second group of another 5 children.
    We are very thankful for the support that the Crescent Moon Project t has received during the past few days. Today, there are children on the waiting list to join our programs Art For Children and The Craft Club. I’m hoping to be able to open another group for each program this March.
    So far I can say that children are so excited and happy to be part of these art lessons, though for most of them this is their introduction to the art world they’re proud of what they achieve at the end of every class. The children who haven’t started yet are looking forward to the classes starting.

Sad News: Armando Cota Cañas, owner-opeator of Restaurante Los Primos located near Chapitos in Los Barriles, passed away this week from a heart attack.  A man of inherent character of warmth and nobility, Armando had the gift of making all who met him feel welcome and appreciated.  He will be greatly missed.  __D. Some moms even contacted me at the end of the class to express the happiness of their kids, everybody was so proud of their first creations, the children, the parents, Xochitl, and of course me. I cannot express enough the gratitude I feel for your support. We’ve gotten donations of art materials and money to pay for these classes. ?????? ???????! We are planning to ???? ??? ????? ???? ?? ??? ??? ???????? ?? ?????, and we have already children on the waiting list for this program, but we still need to get some materials such as ????????, ???????, ????a??, ????? ??????, ????, markers… to be able to complete it successfully. Right now we have enough resources to complete the art classes for both groups and the craft club for another group of 5 children without the materials.⁣ But that’s all. Every class has a cost of $200 pesos per child. ⁣ Every 4 weeks program has a cost of $4,000 pesos / materials not included. But 2021 is still bringing us the Covid way of life, and due to the size of this event, we have had to make the very hard decision to cancelled it for this year….. We call it a “Covid leap year”.  We know that due to the size and the crowds we attract, we could not offer a safe event.  We understand the financial hardship it causes many artists that depend on this event for their very income, but health and safety had to come first.   1.  Smokey’s update: Please know that we have had a few employees that have been out sick. Our rule is that they cannot come to work until they get a negative COVID test. Today one of those out sick tested positive. As a result, we had all of our employees tested. We paid for 28 tests. Most all of those tests were negative. We had positive tests among a few employees out sick that live together or in close proximity. Due to those positive tests, we are now closed. We are sanitizing tonight and tomorrow. We will retest all employees Monday. All employees are effectively quarantined now. Out of an abundance of caution, we want to inform the community of this situation. We are being advised by the proper authorities as to when we can reopen safely. Please know that the safety of our employees and esteemed clients is of utmost importance to us.   2. Hola amigos, this is Priscilla Duran from Cafe Maria, I just started a new project named “Crescent Moon” to offer free art classes to the children of our community. Thanks to your support we have enough to start the art program which will start next week. 12 Children will take 1 class a week for 4 weeks with Xochitl Rivera from Yolochitil Art Studio. We got donations of materials that we will be able to use in the classes, and we also got money donations that allow us to pay for the classes. So thank you very much for supporting this 4 weeks program.

    I’m planning to open a craft club for 5 children by the 1st week of March, this program will last 4 weeks as well, and it will be lead by a teacher who has experience working with children development, her name is Yedid Castro. The classes will have a cost of 3,500 pesos for the 5 children without taking into account the materials.

    Besides the money we need to pay for this course, we would appreciate some craft materials that you could drop to Cafe Maria such as: markers, beads, threads, macrame threads, glue, pom poms, feathers, etc.. anything that can be used in a craft project will be well appreciated. If we get enough to open the Craft Club, a total of 17 children will have been beneficiated from this program and will start introducing art to their lives.

  1. I am working with our Mayor to improve Aqua de la Costa Road. I am the guy who built the road drag and worked the road after the rain. The plan is to bring in the red dirt that packs well, and cover the rocky areas. Then water and drag the road from the slides to the police casita at the paved road. The Mayor is going to supply the water truck when we drag and two people to pick up rocks behind the drag. I am donating my time and fuel to drag the road. I am asking for donations to help pay for the loads of dirt and the equipment to spread and compact the dirt. Kathy at Baja homes and land has offered to accept donations for me. We are going to start the project Monday. Your donations will be greatly appreciated. Any funds that exceed the amount needed for this first stage will be used to pay for the next grading. I will monitor the road condition and set up a time table for how often we need to water and drag. The Mayor would like to add other dirt roads to the list after evaluating the success and cost of this first step. Thank you in advance for your assistance in this project. Jim Hall
