Storm Enrique did give the East Cape some much needed rain, also thunder and lightening! To date I have not heard of any major damage other than from the Gringo Gazette there was a partial washout LB to El Cardonal on the paved road.

You get to see all of their triumphs and successes, but they are dealing with an unprecedented amount of dogs this year due to COVID-19 (lack of spay & neuter clinics/people unable to care for their pets/increased levels of cruelty to dogs etc). They need help desperately to cope with 130 dogs. Just giving a minimum of one day a week to help out in Los Barriles at mini Cortez – or at the main Cortez Rescue in Las Cuevas – would mean all the world to the dogs and to the team. Plus they are providing a HUGE community service. Please, please consider helping out to get through the summer – your small contribution could be a big contribution to the life of a dog. Our Baja summer is seriously heating up and our facilities here do not have AC. Our pups are in immediate need of homes, whether by fostering or adoption. If you live near Los Barriles, you can be a foster Angel to one of our beloved pups. By doing this it gets the dog immediately out of this blistering heat. It also gives the pup a chance to become acclimated to love, trust, people, homes, playing, learning tricks, walking on a leash and to get ready to be adopted. I have personally done this numerous times and what these pups bring to you and your family is completely rewarding. You can be an amazing volunteer Angel at the Cortez Rescue facility here in Baja. A lot of these dogs were abandoned, abused, neglected and they are all in need of every bit of loving human contact they can get. Be that person today! You can be a airport transport Angel and drive our pups safely to the airport so they can fly to their new owner’s home. If you are on vacation and are flying home from the Cabo airport, we would love it if you would be one of our transport Angel’s to help get our pups to their furever homes. Just let Cortez Rescue know your airline and where you are flying to. They will do all the paper work, provide the crate, deliver the pup to the airport and stay until the pup is safely turned over to the airlines. All you have to do at your destination is hand the dog over to the person that Cortez Rescue prearranged to pick up the dog. It’s so easy everyone should do it! You can also be one of our driving transport Angel’s. If you are driving home from Baja, Cortez Rescue will supply you with the all the necessary paperwork, provide the transport crate and food. All you have to do is hand the dog over to the person that Cortez Rescue arranged to pick up the dog at the prearranged destination. If you aren’t blessed to live here in beautiful Baja, you can help by adopting one of our amazing pups. It’s as easy as going to the Cortez Rescue website and looking at all our adorable and adoptable pups. Regarding Vaccination proof: I was told at the Centro de Salud here in Los Barriles they are no longer issuing Cartillas, which is the name of the Health Passport.  I just went yesterday to La Paz, and was able to obtain it there. You will need your resident card (with CURP #), your vaccination paperwork, and, and a small photo. You can get the photo here in LB at the Papeleria just down the road from the El Dorado water plant. Tell them you need it for a Cartilla, they know the size.  The Centro de Salud I went to in La Paz was the one on the Corner of Nickolas Bravo and Calle Primo Verdad. No English spoken.

Cautionary tale:  I went to lunch at La Casita on Friday, June 5th with 5 others friends.  I came in with my wallet in my purse and when I went to pay for my lunch my wallet was no longer in my purse. Of course, I had it hanging over the back of my chair.  A single man entered the restaurant and was seated right behind me. He had the waiter push two table together (a diversion) a few minutes later two ladies came rushing in (another diversion) to join the man. The three were seated for maybe 5 minutes and left the restaurant in a rush (another diversion). Within a hour they had charged gas on my Visa card and also tried to use it at City Club in San Jose.  I am fairly confident that this is the group of people who have hit people at Bayview, a restaurant in La Paz and possibly Smokey’s.  They have been photographed on video.  I am waiting for La Casita to give me their photos are they had the group on video. Here is the info I received:  1)Anyone can obtain the cartilla at el Centro de Salud.  We were vaccinated in SJD. Bring the paper that your 1st & 2nd vaccine lots were recorded on as well as your Permanent Resident card AND an “infantile” photo… you know, the most unflattering, tiny picture that could possibly be taken!  No appt needed but if they’re busy, might be a wait as the nurse completes the cartilla for you – then puts an official stamp on top of the photo.  2) I got my  Cartilla yesterday in LB & both vaccines in Santiago in March & April. No problem, 10-15 min. Had Mexican passport photos, my US passport, PR card, & vaccine paper with dates. 3) I believe you can get this booklet at any Centro de Salud.
