Summer Solstice a week from Tuesday, 6/21/22: Solstice comes from the Latin words sol, meaning Sun and sistere, meaning to come to a stop or stand still. On the day of the June solstice, the Sun reaches its northernmost position, as seen from the Earth. At that moment, its zenith does not move north or south as during most other days of the year, but it stands still at the Tropic of Cancer. The 18th Annual El Cardonal Fishing Tournament was a great success  with 55 boats as well as numerous anglers of all ages fishing from shore.  The money earned from this tournament will greatly benefit the Jardin de Ninos “Angel Fort Amador”   school in El Cardonal to help rebuild the bathrooms for the children and upgrade the deteriorating elecrical system. A special thank you to Clicerio Mercado and Gonzalo Alamea and their “A” team for their expert help in guiding us to another successful tournament.  We look forward to next year’s 19th Annual El Cardonal Tournament on May 26th & 27th, on Memorial Day weekend, 2023.

  1.  I sent a notice for the torneo last week but it has not showed up in the BPE.  The torneo is next week so please be sure to include it in the BPE.  Thank you so much for your help.  Mark your calendar for May 27th & 28th for the annual El Cardonal Torneo de Pesca for Dorado, Tuna & Marlin including shoreline fishing as well as a special  shoreline fishing class for kids ages 8 to 12.  Please join us for another successful tournament and raffle from which 100% of the proceeds are for the benefit of our schools in El Cardonal.  At this year’s tournament prizes will be awarded for the biggest Dorado, Tuna & Marlin as well as prizes for shoreline fishing.  Registration is in El Cardonal on Friday, May 27th, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.  The tournament is on Saturday, May 28th from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the shoreline fishing is from 8 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Raffle tickets will be drawn in the afternoon.

We decided to extend our scholarships to College students and funded 12 students. That is $75,000 in college scholarships dollars we need to fund. In addition we have 143 High School students we will be funding this year. The total eclipse will end at 12:53 a.m. ET Monday, and the partial eclipse will end at 1:55 a.m. ET Monday, the site said.

  • A lunar eclipse occurs when the moon, Earth and sun fall into alignment, with the moon passing through Earth’s shadow, according to NASA. When the moon passes through the darkest part of the Earth’s shadow, called the umbra, it’s known as a total lunar eclipse, the space agency said.
