  1.   Follow-up: Good morning BPE Mexico, FMM gave a full refund for the charges so just to clarify what they did was use my $s four times 119 for almost a week, and instead of getting a 6 month visa, my wife got a seven day visa which was noted when we crossed the border by immigration which is free of charge from what the lady there told us!

  1.   I brought down a few pairs of pants for a young man who lost his dad in a tragic accident a few months ago because his size is so tall and slim, Mexico doesn’t have the correct sizes. It just needs to be delivered and make sure they fit before he has to be at work at 11am and he lives at buena fortuna the botanical gardens almost to La Ribera. About a 30 minute drive from Los Barriles. If anyone is going that way, I don’t have a reliable car right now. You could give me a ride or just drop it off if you’re headed that way and so you wouldn’t have to bring me back but otherwise it’s just a quick turnaround trip. Can help with gas and/or I could borrow your car and bring it right back so you don’t have to go. Has to be Wednesday or Thursday morning.   3. If you fly Westjet into Mexico and hold a permanent resident card, Westjet will grant you an exemption from the $37 Mexican tourist tax charge built into your ticket price. You can get this exemption 2 ways:
    1)      Use the call center when booking, tell the agent about the exemption and they will remove the tourist charge immediately from your ticket.
    2)      After booking, but before flying, call the call center and request the exemption. This is a longer process as they have to reissue the ticket.
    In both cases you need to send in a copy of your permanent resident card to taxexempt@westjet.com

I went online to get my visa online and thought I was on the Mexican Government site it was very official so I filled out the form on MexicoFFM and gave them all my private info and my wife’s.  Went to pay and got turned down wrong expiration date tried again and it said the same thing. Then I got an alert from my bank saying are you sure you want to do this? I said yes went back to the site and was confirmed twice for the charges it turned out to be way more but thought the visas may have gone up.  Got email confirmed but no visa.  Went to my bank account and there was four charges processing for 119 dollars 4 times and no visas!  Called my bank was told to wait still processing so I waited and in the mean time went to the proper web site for Mexican visas got one for the usual amount but was denied the other as it would accept my card, turned out the fraud site was able to process my wife’s visa and it was in my email, continued to contact my bank for over 450 dollars in charges but couldn’t dispute the charges yet.  Now I am still waiting to get my $ back but have to wait for the bank!  Be careful online, think this is associated with some scammers in the Government as it looked totally legit but was a big ripoff

  1. Windows 11 is finally ready for public download and is available in most new computers. What’s new? Under the hood it’s pretty much the same as Windows 10 with some shinny chrome and fins (remember the cars in the 50’s). I will wait at least 6 months before I download and install. I like to wait for everyone else to report bugs and for Microsoft to issue at least one update. The other advantage to waiting will be the addition of Android Apps that are currently used on phones. Believe it or not there are some programs that are released only as apps and not available on full operating systems. If you’re buying a new computer with Windows 11 pre installed, it will be fully optimized for your new computer. The biggest change that you will see immediately is the “start menu” will be in the center. Stay tuned for further developments.

Starlink update. Starlink is the newest satellite internet system using a huge number of low earth satellites providing high speed with low latency and no data caps.  In English:  Fast and very good.   Starlink has just announced a “density limit” on all early subscribers. That means there will be a limit to the number of users in a given area. No exact details as yet. Density limits may change as more satellites are put in orbit. Starlink is out of Beta and ready for the public. I did go to the web site, it recognized my address in Los Barriles and said service would be available in 2021.   4. We know that some vehicles could not be imported or were not imported because of different reasons: a new federal law now permits some of these vehicles to be imported. The procedure is very simple, you present to the SAT offices, located on the Malecon in La Paz, the title and ID and pay 2500 pesos. This been said, there are some vehicles which will not be accepted: A) Vehicles that were not manufactured in  Canada or USA. B) Contraband vehicles which are vehicles that were temporally imported but not returned to the USA when it was time to do so (10 Years from the time the temp. importation was done). C) Vehicles which were once in a fire or flood. Advantages: Once imported: 1.- One will be able to get local plates. 2.- Legally sell or buy the vehicle. 3.- No risk of having the vehicle confiscated. Lic. I’ll be doing some zoom calls and other data intensive activities while there. We have at&t and verizon accounts with unlimited data in the US. will these work for us in Los Barriles and are there data restrictions when using the local networks? are there better local wifi / internet options we can use when we get down there?
