d.  I wanted to share a little about some beloved friends you may know that will be leaving the East Cape.  It was 1991 when Jon Kuchar took a sabbatical from Hewlett Packard in the US and drove down the Baja in a camper to explore and visit friends in Rancho Leonero.  Jon had been traveling, exploring and fishing in Baja since the early 70’s mostly in northern locations and looked forward to spending more time on the East Cape.  Jon loved what he saw, and the people that he met so he ended up staying on with friends, while overseeing the building of a couple of his friend’s homes in Rancho Leonero.

Jon became the general manager for John Ireland at Hotel Rancho Leonero from 1992 – 1993 and returned fulfilling the same position from 1995 -2000.  Kuchar made friends quickly and is loved by all who are lucky enough to know him; and those who worked with him.  Lots and lots of stories from the ‘old days’, wonderful stories being told as the East Cape developed. Campfires, black skies with bright stars – too much tequila and stories – does life get any better?  Jon met the love of his life at Rancho Leonero, Lori, and they married. Jon and Lori make a great couple sharing their home with loved ones, friends and family at Rancho Leonero.

Jon Kuchar was a fixture for so many of us from the 90’s till today, enjoying stories and laughter – Baja good times.  We will miss Jon and Lori, while wishing them all the best with their new adventures in life. Hoping they will soon return and stay with friends and at Rancho Leonero Resort so we can catch up sharing new stories …It was my pleasure to sell their home, so they can start a new chapter in their life.

d. A simple request from S.N.A.P. for all who are planning on returning to Los Barriles for the upcoming season.  We are in desperate need of collars and leashes.  Please go to a Dollar Store and purchase collars in small, medium, and large sizes.
We have continued to spay and neuter dogs and cats throughout this pandemic with a total of 360 so far this year which means we have given out 360 collars/leashes.   We need them to catch, maintain safety for the pets as well as the volunteers, to insure no pet escapes with control of a leash,  and the collar helps identify that most have been fixed even if they are running the streets.

**LOS BARRILES FOOD BANK: URGENT ANNOUNCEMENT**

We are sorry to announce that we will not be making any further Los Barriles Food Bank deliveries until Wednesday 9th September.

One of our team members has tested positive for COVID-19. You will be pleased to know that they are recovering well and have only mild symptoms. This volunteer works behind the scenes so is NOT on the front-line making deliveries.

However, we still need to implement strict protocols to ensure that we’re not putting anyone else at risk including:

• Two weeks shut down for the Los Barriles Food Bank (deliveries will start again on Wednesday 9th September – we will issue a revised schedule beforehand).
• Testing for those that came into close contact with this volunteer.
• The Los Barriles Food Bank Head Office will be closed for the same duration.
• Thorough cleaning of the Head Office and storage facilities.

This is a reminder to everyone that masks, washing hands and social distancing are vital if we are to beat this virus. Otherwise it will continue to affect us and we won’t be able to get back to our normal lives.

a.  Monday, February 24th.  Flag day celebration at Buena Vista Monument.  It starts in the morning at 8ish and ends at 1ish. One of the better cultural events celebrated in our area you should attend.  Folkloric dancing, music, running race and many of our local and state officials on hand for the flag-raising ceremony.  There is plenty of open parking at Teresa’s Tours office just below the monument on the southside and walk up the trail to the monument

b.  Everyone is invited to Carnaval! Everyone loves Carnaval, the biggest street party of the year. This year our annual Los Barriles Carnaval Parade takes place on February 29th. Gather at the Fountain and be prepared to start rolling at 4:30pm. Everyone is welcome and highly decorated children and vehicles of all descriptions are expected to reappear this year. We’ll march from the Fountain to Laguna Park, and gather to award prizes for best costumes and decorated floats. No costume can be too extravagant or too spare – it’s simply about being there. Everyone dances in the street at Carnaval!  Bring your children in disguise, there will be: raffle, t-shirts, and gifts / Disguise your car, bike, tricycle or even your dog! EVERYBODY PARTICIPATES!!
