Heads Up Los Barriles—-My green shoulder bag was stolen this morning (Weds) at Maxico cafe during our Cortez Rescue event.  It looks similar to this one with 2 zip compartments and a gold chain and leather long strap.  IT IS LIME GREEN COLOR  and about 8″ long x 5″ tall.  It says Kate Spade New York on the front in gold letters. Reward if found!!  They may have just taken credit cards and $$ and thrown the bag away. Be alert for a young couple, she in a hat and long dress, he speaks good English, about 25-30 yrs old, neatly dressed.  They arrived in a small car with two other young men who waited in the car. 1.   Festival de Artes 2022 has been cancelled.
   A joint decision between Hotel Palmas de Cortez and Asociación de Artes was made last week to cancel the 2022 Festival de Artes, which was to be held on March 20th.
   The decision was made after much deliberation and consideration.  In the end the conclusion was made to cancel due to the continued issue with Covid levels in the surrounding community, southern BCS and the world.  It is very important to both parties involved that we do not contribute to in any way an increase in Covid levels and illness in anyone – guests and vendors/participants alike.
   We once again look towards the festival March 19, 2023 in great hopes that surely Covid has slowed down and will not have the impact on our lives it does today!  We just all need to do our part to slow this thing down!
2. ARTIST STUDIO TOUR ON FEBRUARY 9TH IS HAPPENING!!  The tour is easy to control and maintain the covid protocols that have been set forth by the government and health officials.  Details on the tour are at www.eastcapearts.com.  Masks will be required! – eastcapersmagazine@gmail.com

4. (a) There is a new scam out that uses those convenient QR codes. What’s a QR code, that’s the square with unreadable text in it. QR codes are used to provide links to web pages, restaurant menus, store info, etc. Criminals have begun to print their own QR codes to paste them over the top of legit QR codes. If the QR code you are about to scan is in a public location, beware – you could be linked to a scam site. I saw a QR Code at a restaurant that would take me to a TelCel site, well, maybe. Bottom line, if the QR code takes you to a site that asks you for personal or financial information, type in the web site manually!
   
   (b) Here’s an old scam that won’t go away. Someone calls you, telling you that you have a virus on your computer. During the conversation that person wants to install software to help you through the process. Stop there! Never let anyone takeover or have access to your computer. You will expose your all your data including financial information to the caller. In most cases, if someone has entered your computer remotely, your best resolution is to reformat and rewrite the operating system. Yes, it can happen on a Mac. thecomputerguy@usa.com

6. CORTEZ RESCUE FUNDRAISER for a replacement RESCUE VEHICLE. 1.   Another way to notarize:   Ways around the notarization process in Mexico by going to La Paz and using some of the notaries there and then having them verified at an apostille, but that is very expensive. Apparently they charge $100 per stamp at the notary, plus the additional apostille charges. I was told by a US lawyer who knows the process that it is a legal requirement that notaries in Mexico, amongst other countries, must allow notarizations followed by certification at an apostille (see Hague Conference).

ALERT, GASOLINE THIEVES, be on the lookout!  They did not hesitate to cut our filler pipe/hose to the gas tank. This happened in the Looney Loop area on Tuesday night/Wednesday night or both.  They siphoned off most of the gas on Tuesday night (18th), then again on Wednesday night as well (got the rest). 1.  East Cape Epic bicycle race. Ride and you will be first: A first year participant in the Race for a reason. 12 miles on a mixed course of pavement and desert track road (no single track). Two person teams and team mates ride the same class of bikes and must start and finish together.  Two classes of bikes, e-bike and conventional.  10% purse to the overall winners in each class with all other funds raised going to the outstanding efforts of the East Cape Guild. The route is 12 miles with approximately half the distance on pavement and half on desert track road. Wednesday February 2, 2022.
