EVENTS

1.  The first edition of the East Cape Epic bicycle race is being held in Los Barriles on the morning of Wednesday February 2, 2022. This is a FUNdRacer with all donations collected and 80% of the entry fees going directly to the East Cape Guild. The Guild makes education accessible for deserving East Cape Students! eastcapeguild.com 20% of the entry fees will be awarded to the overall winners, 10% to each of the two classes. The race is open to riders of all abilities and there are two classes of bicycles: e-bikes and conventional bikes. This team event will require two riders per team to be on similar class bikes and team members must start and finish the race together. The course is 12 miles with challenging climbs, descents, and desert track. If all that is not breathtaking, the views will be. Register for the event by emailing: Team Name, team members names, class of bikes, valid email to svlila@yahoo.com. Registration is open from now until race day. Early registration helps our staff of one to prepare. Entry fees are 500 pesos per person (1000 pesos per team) Fees will be collected and team numbers distributed on morning of the race. RECYCLE TOMORROW – THURSDAY, JAN 6TH!

Let’s get 2022 off to a clean start by recycling excess holiday packaging, along with the usual recyclables, at Baja’s Resort at East Cape on Thursday, January 6th, 9-11 a.m. – covid vaccinations required to enter the property.  Some types of wrapping paper can be recycled (does it crunch if squished?) but neither foil, glitter-decorated paper nor tissue paper can; these are often made from already recycled material and can’t be further processed.  We’re all trying to do the right thing in keeping our community and planet healthy but some stuff is simply trash and should be put into your own garbage, especially glass.

Please separate your crushed/rinsed plastics into 3 categories:  Milk and milky style containers, Clear plastics, Colored plastics and lids.  We also accept aluminum (no used foil), metals/tin & cardboard broken down and bundled.  Your $100 peso donation/household/month pays for transporting the sorted recyclables to La Paz.

4. Dated 1/1/22: Security Alert! We live out on Agua de la Costa. On Friday morning (Dec 31st) at 7:45 AM, somebody came through our beach access door and went into our unlocked truck and opened our garage door with the garage door opener. We heard some noise from our beach gate and came out, and evidently scared them away. They stole our garage door opener, a tool bag in the truck and a car jumper battery. They didn’t have time to make it into the garage to take more things. Pretty brazen to do this at 7:45 AM in broad daylight. We have changed the codes on our garage door and driveway gate so the stolen garage door opener is useless. We are now only using small garage door openers that attach to our keychain ….. And no longer leaving a garage remote in the truck. It also appears that we have to keep our truck locked at all times even in our driveway. Just giving everyone a heads up. They attended well to my wife I will agree but when I asked what the cost for overnight cost would be I was shocked 20,000 dollars for non critical condition. 1.   East Cape Health Center Announcement There is a noticeable increase in positive antigen and PCR tests in the local labs. We hate to disappoint people when trying to board a flight but with the tighter restrictions of one day turn around it can be a gamble. I recommend getting tested the day prior to your flight so you will have time to adjust your flight plans if necessary. Everyone enjoys the water, sun and fun of our community but please use cautions and follow the guidelines of wearing a masks and maintain your distance. We see the covid strands spreading in US and Canada only to follow will be our community. Holidays are a time for family and friends so follow the simple rules. East Cape Health Center supports many families and children providing medical and dental services at low or no cost depending on the situation. Offering antigen and PCR testing at our clinic allows us additional income to expand our services for our children’s program. Your hard drive will fail!  It’s just a question of when it will fail.  There are generally no indications that it is failing.  It can fail within 90 days or more likely at 8 years.  It will work today just fine, tomorrow it may fail.  Back up your most important files daily or after every use.  Backup all files once a week.  How?  Excellent question.  I use at least two external drives (I have more but I keep that a secret from my wife).  I also use online storage. Dropbox which makes all those files available on all my devices and mobile devices.  Idrive is another good solution for automatic backup.  One copy of a file no matter where it is does not represent a backup copy.  Photos are even easier.  Google Photos offers backup for free up to 1TB at reduced resolution.  Amazon Prime offers free online photo storage at full resolution. thecomputerguy@usa.com

Bring warm blankets, clothes, and toys to either Don Roberto’s Pizzeria, Seven Seas Prop Mgnt, Homes and Land, or Café Maria. Then join us at Don Roberto’s on December 18th from 2:30 to 5:00 pm. Come listen to live music and watch a Christmas tree contest, just be sure to wear your masks when you aren’t munching on pizza.
