Regarding Vaccination proof: I was told at the Centro de Salud here in Los Barriles they are no longer issuing Cartillas, which is the name of the Health Passport.  I just went yesterday to La Paz, and was able to obtain it there. You will need your resident card (with CURP #), your vaccination paperwork, and, and a small photo. You can get the photo here in LB at the Papeleria just down the road from the El Dorado water plant. Tell them you need it for a Cartilla, they know the size.  The Centro de Salud I went to in La Paz was the one on the Corner of Nickolas Bravo and Calle Primo Verdad. No English spoken.

Cautionary tale:  I went to lunch at La Casita on Friday, June 5th with 5 others friends.  I came in with my wallet in my purse and when I went to pay for my lunch my wallet was no longer in my purse. Of course, I had it hanging over the back of my chair.  A single man entered the restaurant and was seated right behind me. He had the waiter push two table together (a diversion) a few minutes later two ladies came rushing in (another diversion) to join the man. The three were seated for maybe 5 minutes and left the restaurant in a rush (another diversion). Within a hour they had charged gas on my Visa card and also tried to use it at City Club in San Jose.  I am fairly confident that this is the group of people who have hit people at Bayview, a restaurant in La Paz and possibly Smokey’s.  They have been photographed on video.  I am waiting for La Casita to give me their photos are they had the group on video.   11. Thank you for the responses to my question about whether and where we could get our Cartilla (Covid passport) if we were not vaccinated in Los Barriles. Here is the info I received:  1)Anyone can obtain the cartilla at el Centro de Salud.  We were vaccinated in SJD. Bring the paper that your 1st & 2nd vaccine lots were recorded on as well as your Permanent Resident card AND an “infantile” photo… you know, the most unflattering, tiny picture that could possibly be taken!  No appt needed but if they’re busy, might be a wait as the nurse completes the cartilla for you – then puts an official stamp on top of the photo.  2) I got my  Cartilla yesterday in LB & both vaccines in Santiago in March & April. No problem, 10-15 min. Had Mexican passport photos, my US passport, PR card, & vaccine paper with dates. 3) I believe you can get this booklet at any Centro de Salud.   11. 17th ANNUAL EL CARDONAL FISHING TOURNAMENT & RAFFLE

    The El Cardonal Fishing Tournament & Raffle were a great success. In 17 years of this torneo it broke the record for the largest prize money paid to the anglers. There were 66 boats boats and over 250 anglers. The winner for the largest Dorado at 44.4 lbs. was Carlos Lucero Lucero. The largest Atun at 49.2 lbs. was Cade Smith. The largest Marlin at 154.2 lbs. was Miguel Higuera Higuera. And the jackpot winner was Marco Torres for a Marlin at 129.6 lbs.

    And the big winner is the El Cardonal Prepa School (Telebachillerato Comunitario 20) which received 82,000 pesos from the torneo and 25,000 pesos from the raffle and additional donations from all the sponsors.

    A special thank you to Clicerio Mercado and Gonzalo Alamea and their “A” team for their expert help in guiding us to such a successful fishing tournament.

  2. To get an official record of your Covid Vaccination go to the Los Barriles Centro de Salud ask for a cartilla. You need the little Mexican passport picture (which you can get at the papeleria next to the car wash), your vaccine document and we were also told to bring our passport, but they did not need it. The photo costs 50 pesos and the vaccine record book is free.  You should also have on hand the dates of your first and second vaccine, the date of our first was on the paper but not the 2nd.

Back in 2001 it seemed like a north outpost on Los Barriles’ sleepy main street as we joined only Otra Vez Restaurant and Chuny’s little grocery beer store where the Modelorama is.  Through the years the space has filled in and there’s a thriving north end of stores, restaurants, coffee shops, fruits and vegetables, bikes, tacos. We’re proud to have helped anchor that friendly growth with our six acres tucked in and growing into an amazing, green, ecofriendly resort. I’m now pleased to share with you our newly minted website www.bajasresortateastcape.com. It’s overdue, but we’ve been busy! We host 120 guests, casita owners, RVers all winter and take care of all our ‘Awesome’ businesses year-round.  Shaun and I know we are nothing without our incredible crews, topped by Omar Araiza and also lead by Maria Fernandez. We are grateful to them all for holding up the Baja lifestyle in our little Los Barriles community and deeply caring for all our guests across our Awesome family of business.   1.   Note from a happy Canadian: Unfortunately in life (especially in todays climate) more people have time to moan and complain rather than post compliments and positive experiences. So please allow me to post my experience with returning from 5 months basking away in our little piece of paradise while our friends and family’s around the world had to endure months of restrictions, isolation even worse the loss of lose of loved ones. I took my first test the day before returning at the local lab in LB, it was nothing more painful than taking a tad to much Wasabi at La Castia, picked up the results that afternoon. Downloaded all the apps required for Mexico, US and Canada and filled them out accordingly…not a brain buster. The next day I checked into SJD with my apps and paper work, it was a seamless operation, the staff where helpful and friendly. Arrived in Seattle cleared immigration and customs with the same friendliness Took the shuttle to my pre booked hotel. Next morning I it took it back to the airport to take my pre booked NAAT test , which I took myself and had the results texted within 30 mins. Caught my flight to Bellingham where I hailed a cab to the Pacific crossing where I walked to the crossing to be greeted by a very helpful customs agent, he gave me two test kits and said instead of take the first test the next morning I could do it right there with the help of trained staff once I cleared customs. The customs staff cleared me through and even helped with my baggage. I went to the tent and took my first CND test, 10 mins later I was across and heading home. Each day off quarantine I checked in via an app, on day 8 I registered for my last test and got in the queue, I was 438 in line at 8:30 am, at 8:35 I was sitting in front of the screen being coached though the last test by a very patient and helpful nurse, popped my test kit into the supplied bag and left it for pick up on the doorstep as required, 3 days later received my test results back via email. This little bit of inconvenience is a very small price to pay for the time I was allowed to spend in paradise.   2. Thanks to everyone who helped hook me up with the epic LB to Todos Santos ATV ride.  We took the north route and had QuadGirl trailer our machines to San Antonio. Then used the Gaia GPS app and the awesome maps from our BPE friends.   We had a tire blow out, so carry an extra.  Edgar from QG picked us up and we trailered home.  That dude is awesome!  The ride was about 3 hours, lunch was about 2 hours eating the best shrimp tacos ever (far west side of town at the corner, painting of jalapeño cartoon on the wall). Ride home was under 2 hours I’m Edgar’s awesome truck. Another superb option is to stay at the hotel San Crystobal and check out the Lobos boat launch in the morning, then ride back to LB.  Peace, amigos.  Enjoy it all!  Harry. – harry@dincpie.com
