Via the Ventana View - Our neighbors
to the north
a. Bad accident, need gear transport
North. We were all packed up with trailer and van headed North,
got side swiped by oncoming car, pealing off driver side front
tire at K53 North of La Paz sending us 50m down into an arroyo,
rolled the van totally done, trailer stayed upright all gear is
ok. It was a miracle and we all walked away with just scratched.
Now we need to figure out how to get our gear north. If anyone
has space for any boards, sups, windsurf quiver bags going to
LA, SF or the Gorge even just a couple items we would love you
forever. Going to have to fly back and recoup everything,
luckily the gear was worth more than van and trailer combined.
If you can help please -

===========================================
Almost one year ago our
great community came together around two nearly starved
and dying of thirst horses that were tethered just feet
away from the highway near the south Pemex. The 6 year
old palomino mare "Princessa" and her 3 year old
cinnamon colored filly "Canella" found caring, concerned
sponsors in the East Cape and were wearily collected and
moved to a pasture donated by Jose Luis Gonzalez across
from his block factory and just north of Ochoa's
Chicken. Exhausted and without energy, the relief on the
horses faces was palatable once they understood they had
safe haven. They had constant water, nutritious hay and
roaming space past the 6 foot rope they had been on for
months. Seemingly impossible, we soon learned that
tucked inside their skinny frames and under protruding
ribs were soon to be delivered babies. Just six days
after arriving, first came 'Milagro' (Miracle), whose
beautiful Palomino/Buckskin coloring is often
romantically described in Louis L'Amour's western
novels. A month later, his fuzzy little cousin 'Sorpresa
de Pele' (Pele's Surprise) made an entry into the world;
another surprise as likely his mother would not even
have survived another week had she continued to be
tethered. Now nearly as big as their mothers and in
rambunctious full health, these two colts are hitting
adolescence and must be gelded to assure their continued
health - and no more babies! So many people committed
and are responsible for helping the 'Highway Horses'
over the past year by supporting the fund for hay,
worming, hoof trimming. If you have a heart for horses
or perhaps this rescue of the "Highway Horses" tugs at
your heart strings, please consider a donation. The
one-time gelding cost is $6000 pesos; the monthly hay
costs are $3300 pesos. If you are a horse person and
would like to get hands on involved, that is welcomed.
Princessa is trained for riding; Canella is awaiting
training. The gentled colts need constant ground
handling and in another year, trained for riding. If you
would consider adoption, your thoughts and plans are
welcome as well. Donations to the “Highway Horses” can
be made at East Cape Casas & RV Resort who are
overseeing the horses custody and care; emails to
combertheresa@hotmail.com, calls to 14-10231.

a. Community Hole-Filling Project
Once again, a very special thank you to all of the people north of
town who stopped to donate funds to pay for the materials needed to
complete the filling of the holes on the paved road to El Cardinal.
Most of all, a big thank you to Rigo of Rigo Lucera Construction and
his men for donating their time and hard work to finish this
project. If there are any questions or concerns, Rigo can be reached
at 624-129-6941. hese folks worked hard once again to make this road
a much more comfortable drive for this community. Thanks
again to those of you who contributed to this project. Mike Kerr
b. If you are looking for an
exceptional breakfast, I would recommend Caleb's Cafe. I eat in my
place a lot, but when my girl friend was in town, we tried several
places and thought this was worthy of mention. It was clean, food
was good, service was good and the staff was friendly, consistantly,
each time we went there. The sticky buns were awesome. Harry
