A local American chipped her front tooth
nearly in half, Frantic to get it repaired she started getting
estimates for repairs. She checked on her coverage with

There will be an
Iron Man Triathalon in San Jose and Cabo on Sunday, March 17th,
and we were warned that they are closing one lane of Highway 1
between San Jose and Cabo San Lucas that day for the bicycle and
running portions of the race. Unless you want to watch the race,
it is a good day to stay away from that area. Also, San Jose
Days are this weekend with their parade with floats and classic
cars on Tuesday the 19th. Parade forms at Mega, goes past the
Hotels on the beach, then downtown, and ends at the Baseball
Field, where they will also have many music groups performing.
Meanwhile in La Paz… there is a Classic Car Parade on
Saturday on the Malecon starting around 5:30PM, and a Classic
Car Show on Sunday at the Park across the Malecon from 16
September. There are always some great cars to see there.

Baja Night Sky - Comet Update for
Friday, March 15: Sky and Telescope Magazine is
calling Comet Panstarr "a spec, not a spectacle." It has
turned out to be difficult to locate, with only a 15 to 20
minute window to find it, and most people will need to use
binoculars. Still, it's not every evening that we can see a
visitor from the outer reaches of the solar system, so if
you can find a location with a dark sky and clear view of
the horizon or mountains to the west, you have a week or two
to find it. Mark the spot where the sun sets. Forty-five
minutes later (about 6:50pm in El Sargento), begin to scan
the horizon just to the north of the sunset point. Sweep
back and forth, moving up about a fist's width as you scan.
You have 20 to 25 minutes before the comet sets, and each
night it sets farther north. If there is still a crescent
moon high in the west, the comet is far below it and
slightly to the north. Geraint Smith, a photographer in New
Mexico, could not find the comet Wednesday evening, but he
still took the spectacular photo at

I asked him how he did it. If you have a digital camera give
it a try. About 50 minutes after sunset, have the camera on
a tripod, or on a pillow on the top of a car, wall, or table
with a good view of the horizon from the sunset point north.
If you have an M (manual) setting, set the aperture at f8,
ISO at 400, shutter at 6 seconds (experiment with 1 to 8 or
so), and focus at infinity. Eliminate any foreground using a
minimum of telephoto if available. After taking the photo,
Geraint used photo software to increase the contrast.
