The Road Runner Cafe' 5K/1K is only one week away!!!! On March
23rd. please run or walk the beach in support of helping
students pay for their high school tuition/books/bus fares. The
5K race starts at the Buena Vista La Playa (on the beach by the
Popular Grocery Store) at 9am. The 1K, for 12 and under, starts
at 8:30am. Register the day of the race or pre-register at Road
Runner Cafe'. The cost is $100 pesos for the 5K and $25 pesos
for the 1K. We do have some sponsorships left for the 1K. You

Baja Night Sky - Week of March 17 - Comet Panstarrs sets a few
minutes later, and a finger width or so farther north each night
for the next week. In El Sargento, search for it with binoculars
between 6:55 and 7:10pm (50 to 65 minutes after sunset). There
are several other comets in the same direction. One just beneath
Jupiter has broken into 4 or 5 pieces. But these comets can only
be seen with a large telescope. Sunday evening, the moon will
pass between Jupiter and Aldebaran in the constellation Taurus.
Many stars of Taurus, in a small circle from Aldebaran down to
the bull's nose, form an open star cluster, a group of young
stars all traveling together through space. Below, and slightly
to the north of Jupiter, is another famous star cluster known as
the Pleiades, Seven Sisters, or Subaru Group in Japan. Good eyes
with dark skies can pick out 7 to 11 individual stars of the
cluster forming a small dipper. Binoculars will bring out 100
stars, and a medium-size telescope 500. The stars in this open
cluster are about 100 million years old. That is young compared
to the earth and our solar system which is about 4.5 billion
years old. The Vernal Equinox, marking the first day of spring,
falls on Wednesday, March 20 this year. That is when the sun,
rising slightly farther north each day, crosses the celestial
equator, an imaginary circle in the sky directly above the
earth's equator. Although the length of day and night are not
going to be equal on March 20, you can mark the points on the
horizon where the sun rises and sets as true east and west for
your location. Another sign of spring's arrival is the star
Arcturus, fourth brightest star in the night sky. By 9pm, it is
rising slightly north of due east. Follow the arc of the handle
of the Big Dipper to find Arcturus. Tom S.

San Jose & Cabo: Sunday Road Closures
This Sunday, Paddy’s day, due to the Ironman Triathlon race there
will be some major streets closed They are completing the swimming
part off the Palmilla beach between 5:30am thru 9:30am, so the
Palmilla access road will be closed during those hours.
They’re going to use one half of the fourlane between San Jose and
Cabo, for their running and their bicycling portion of the race, so
the two lanes of the mountain side of the highway will be closed
from 5:30am through 5:30pm. Cars will be allowed to use the other
two lanes: traffic will be down to two lanes the entire day. This
only applies to as far south as WalMart, as the racers turn around
there. Cabo is hassle free.
The toll road to the airport will be closed entirely, from 6:00am to
5:00pm, you will have to take the old fourlane to the airport so
allow extra time.
All of downtown San José, the main drag, Blvd Mijares, will be
closed 5:30pm to midnight.
Two lanes of Av. Paseo Malecon will be closed all day, but two lanes
will still be available for traffic. That is the street in San Jose
that has all the hotels on it.
Av. Centenario to the Encanto Inn will be closed all day. That’s the
street that runs behind downtown San Jose. The bridge to La Playita
will be closed entirely, good luck with that. Folks are expected to
use the old road across the arroyo, but that’s a tough track these
days.
