We have a new Police Chief in Los Barriles, Andres
Ramirez, and he is looking forward to helping our community stay
safe. He stopped by my office and asked if I could let the community
know that they will be using the roof lights while patrolling the
areas at night to anounce their presence and to not be alarmed. I
also could use a few more gas donations for the Police. Anyone

The three day BEGINNING WATERCOLOR workshop starts

1)
Thank you to the person who made a post about this phone scam from
number 301 076 9782. Today (March 24, 2015) we had the exact same
thing happen. Someone called saying they were my husband’s favorite
cousin, here for a wedding in Cancun. Driving now to Progresso and
wanted to visit. My husband doesn’t even KNOW his cousins, the
family is so distant! First they called the house phone, then we
gave a cell phone number (not knowing it was a scam as of yet....)
When he called the cellphone we were able to Google the number and
found your post on Baja Pony Express describing the same scenario!
His last post was that his insurance won’t cover him and won’t let
him move his car until he pays the deductible..............I wrote
back that we had researched and knew his number was a SCAM, don’t
call back. Hopefully this will help anyone else who gets a
call from this Chicago number............ The Carters, in Telchac

Courtesy of the Gringo Gazette: This scam is perpetrated by Gringos,
on Gringos.
Somebody with no Spanish accent calls and seems to know you. That’s
the spooky part. They at least know your name and in one case even
what property the mark owned. In another case, the extortionist knew
the names of family members.
The story is a different each time, tailored to the
person being extorted, but it’s always an urgent need for money.
If you are called on behalf of a friend, family member,
or acquaintance, no matter how urgent or dire they say it is, be
skeptical and do what you can to contact the person in trouble
direct. If that fails, tell the caller you will send the police to
help, and again, try to contact the person who supposedly needs the
money.
They have never, in any of these attempts, been in
contact with that person. This is not kidnapping, they have never
harmed anyone. This is a scam to scare you into sending money to
someone you know who is in distress. The spooky part is, the people
doing this are embedded in our community: they know us. They know
our names, our phone numbers, and a little bit about us.
